Kajol to star in YRF flick?

Might play the lead in Yash Chopra's directorial come-back, supposedly starring King Khan and Katrina

Is Yash Chopra planning to recreate Dilwale Dulhaniya Le Jayenge magic with Shah Rukh Khan and Kajol in his directorial next?

We recently spotted the actress at the YRF studios and sources inform that it was more than just a casual visit.

Rumours are rife that the film, a romantic saga, will star SRK and Katrina Kaif in the lead role. However, there is another spot in the movie and YRF's favourite actress, Kads is being considered for it.

The source reveals, "Chopra is very keen to have Kads opposite Shah Rukh. He is quite fond of both of them and loves their onscreen pairing. He feels that they can create the same magic."

"While it's sure that Katrina will star in the film, it could be possible that the movie is a love triangle and that they have approached Kajol to either reprise the other romantic lead or do a cameo," the source further adds.

The filmmaker who has directed movies like Dil Toh Pagal Hai, Silsila, etc. is returning to direction after seven years, with a romantic film. His last directorial venture was Veer Zara in 2004.

Katrina's the mediator!

Salman Khan hasn't worked with director Kabir Khan and producer Aditya Chopra before and we hear that the situation is kind of awkward for the duo who will soon start filming Ek Tha Tiger which also stars Katrina Kaif.

Since Salman is not a phone person, Adi seems to have decided that the best way to communicate with his hero is through Kat.

Since Kat shares a good bond with the having worked with them before, she doesn't mind playing the messenger between them and her ex-boyfriend. Buzz is that both Khan and Chopra haven't really opened up to each other. Perhaps it has something to do with the producer being close to his rival SRK. We are sure things will improve once they begin shooting for the film.

Katrina, Imran & crew had big wrap up party for Mere Brother Ki Dulhan

Katrina Kaif has discovered a new friend to party with. She feels extremely comfortable with Imran Khan as a pal and co-star and as ideal husband to his wife Avantika. Last week, Katrina partied till the wee hours on Thursday night with Imran before driving straight from the party to the airport in the next morning to catch a flight to Bangkok.

Says a source close to Katrina, "Katrina is in a space where she's content being on her own, because she has two back-to-back Yash Raj Films to shoot this year. The last thing she wants is any distraction. On Thursday night when Ranbir threw open his bungalow for his friends for a party, Katrina was hurriedly wrapping up the last day's shoot for Mere Brother Ki Dulhan."

Very late into the night when the last shot was done Imran and the director decided on an impromptu wrap-up party.

Says the source, "Katrina begged off since she had an early-morning flight to catch for Bangkok to shoot an ad. But when Imran insisted, Katrina didn't want to be a party-pooper. What was meant to be just a brief wrap-up party went on till the morning. Katrina had no time to go home. She drove straight to the airport to catch her flight to Bangkok."

Yawning unabashedly in Bangkok on Friday morning, Katrina said, "Yes we did a have a wrap-up party. We had a super-time. Mere Brother Ki Dulhan has been one of the most fun films I've shot. Me, Imran, Ali Zafar, the director Ali Abbas Zafar everyone was like one a big family. So when they suggested a wrap-up celebration, I couldn't resist it."

When asked why she skipped Ranbir's party, Katrina shoots back. "When I was having so much with my Mere Brother ... crew why would I want to be anywhere else for a party? I am at a stage in my career where I've to find the fun zone within my work schedule."

Interestingly, Katrina goes into two back-to-back Yash Raj films this year. First Kabir Khan's Ek Tha Tiger with Salman and then Yash Chopra's directorial venture with Shah Rukh Khan.

"You're forgetting, I've just completed another Yash Raj Film Mere Brother Ki Dulhan. So its three Yash Raj films in a row for me. This year is devoted to them," Katrina quips.

After Sandalwood, Raghu Dixit heads to Bollywood

Raghu Dixit
“I will be composing music for Yash Raj Films’ forthcoming project — Mujhse Fraaandship Karoge? The offer came in as a surprise and the film is a happy and a feel good one. The music will definitely have a touch of folk and I will be singing a song for it too,” says an excited Raghu, who has tweeted about completing the background score for the film.
What’s more? The musician has also been awarded the Best Newcomer at the 2011 Songlines Music Awards, organised by a UK-based magazine Songlines. Currently working on his UK musical, he will be seen collaborating with English folk-band Bellowhead and Kathak dancer Gauri Sharma for the same.
“All the three of us performed together once, and seemed to have connected instantly. We decided on a staging a musical for which the production has already begun. Currently, we are in the process of finalising the story. Initially, we thought we could work on folk tales from the Panchatantra, but now we are browsing materials on Indian mythology. Nevertheless, there will be a strong folk element in our musical,” he reveals.
After a string of performances in the UK, the band will be seen performing at upcoming festivals like Glastonbury, Belladrum, Rhythms of the World, Latitude amongst others. Says Raghu, “The kind of response we get in places like the UK is amazing. Initially, it was difficult to break through, but there is a sense of curiosity for them to see men clad in weird costumes performing with western instruments. After the initial hiccup, they get comfortable.”
With work for his second album already in the pipeline, the composer seems to be having a rather busy year. “There will be about 10 songs in different languages like Tamil, Bengali, and Punjabi amongst others, unlike my previous album. I am looking at a November release,” he signs off.

Dhoom 3 in 3D? Aamir hesitant...

It seems like Aditya Chopra wants to shoot Dhoom 3 in the 3D format. However Aamir Khan, who plays the negative lead in the film, seems to have reservations.

With the advent of the latest 3D technology which has caught the fancy of Hollywood in a big way, almost every third foreign film is being made in 3D. For many film-franchise which came up with their third part, like Ice Age: Dawn of the Dinosaurs, Step Up 3, Transformers Dark of the Moon, etc, the 3D just went in sync with the title. Now one big Bollywood film seems to be taking to the 3D format in its third installment. We are talking about Dhoom 3 .

Buzz is that Aditya Chopra has plans to take his ambitious film Dhoom 3 to another level by shooting it in the 3D format. The action-adventure genre of the film gives a lot of scope for 3D effects in the film. A source informs, "With the success of Haunted 3D , India's first film in the new 3D technology, the Yash Raj banner felt that Indian audiences have opened up to 3D cinema viewing. That made them more confident to experiment with the new format".

However, while Aditya Chopra seems quite upbeat about the idea, Aamir Khan, who plays the negative lead in the film, seems to have his reservations. "The 3D technology needs expertise and perhaps Aamir is not sure whether director Vijay Krishna Acharya (who last directed Tashan and wrote Dhoom 1 & 2 ) would be able to do justice to it", explains the source. Another reason could be the fact that with 3D coming into picture, technology takes precedence over performance. So perhaps Aamir's acting prowess might get camouflaged behind the technique.

Presently Aamir Khan is busy with the promotions of his next production Delhi Belly and once that film releases, he might have discussions with Aditya Chopra regarding shooting Dhoom 3 in 3D. We hope he agrees. D3 in 3D would be a visual delight!

Y-Films says 'Take off your clothes and freak out'

Y-Films is committed to breaking a genre and creating and building an audience. The idea is to detonate boundaries. And most importantly, do it with style. Which basically means that Y-Films is more than just a film production house. It is an attitude. And if it is an attitude, it must be available in small, medium and large and it must be worn.

That's how Y-Stuff was born. The official clothing line of the coolest film production house in Bollywood. The first collection from the label is inspired by our movie, Luv Ka The End. The clothing range captures moments from the gory and bloody viral Teddy Series and also echoes the rebellious spirit of the brand. Some really funny lines and sexy designs found their way to a whole range of merchandise like tees, boxers and bags.

Now that we had the stuff, we had to take it to the world. And we partnered with one of the biggest and most popular clothing retail chains in the country, The Loot stores. The Loot stores is a discount based chain that enables us to reach out to our audience keeping their pocket money in mind. Y-Stuff is now available in 60 Loot stores across India. But that is just on-ground. For a generation that spends most of its time online, we had to reach out to them there too. Y-Stuff is also retailed online via major online selling platforms such as Seventymm, Groupon, Bookmyshow, Fashion and u, and Naaptol. These platforms attract a total traffic of nearly 25 lakh users and that is a huge potential for us as a brand to spread the good word.

On the event of the launch of Y-Stuff, Ashish Patil, Creative and Business Head, Y-Films commented, "You need not just see Y-Films... now you can wear it too."

Did YRF first offer Ek Tha Tiger to Shah Rukh Khan?

Yash Raj Films probably made one of the biggest announcements last week when they signed Salman Khan along with Katrina Kaif for Kabir Khan's directorial venture Ek Tha Tiger. The news was indeed big as it is the first time Salman is working with Yash Raj Films.

However, not many people know that the same film had earlier been offered to YRF favourite and Salman's rival Shah Rukh Khan who unfortunately couldn't take it up due to date issues. King Khan in a recent interview has confirmed the same and has said that he doesn't have any regrets that YRF have now gone ahead and signed Salman for the project. However, it remains to be seen if Sallu was aware of this fact before signing the project.

Is Yash Raj Bending Their Rules For Salman?

Yash Raj Films is apparently bending their rules for Salman Khan.

A source from the unit of his film Ek Tha Tiger with Kabir Khan revealed that the actor will be allowed to park his personal vanity van in the studios.

Usually YRF doesn't allow outside vans to come in their compound. But Sallu made it very clear that he would be doing this project totally on his rules.

The source said, "Salman doesn't understand the old school dynamics of the production house and they aren't familiar with his mood swings and demands. There will be friction, but at the end of the day they want to put of a successful film, so issues will be resolved and put aside."

Ranveer Singh unable to leave Bittu behind

There is more excitement in Delhi for the shooting of Maneesh Sharma's Ladies V/S Ricky Bahl than expected. Apparently, Ranveer Singh keeps slipping into his character Bittu's accent from his debut film Band Baaja Baraat, leading to much amusement and some annoyance among the unit.

Ranveer Singh's character Ricky Bahl in Ladies v/s Ricky Bahl is actually based on someone the writer Habib Faizal knew in his growing days in Delhi. And Ricky Bahl is not the only hero in a Yash Raj Film to be based on the same character.

Abhishek Bachchan in Shaad Ali's Jhoom Baraabar Jhoom which Habib Faizal wrote was also based on the same character and even had the same name.

Habib doesn't deny the similarities, "Yes, Abhishek's character in Jhoom Baraabar Jhoom was named Ricky Thukral. Ranveer I've named Rick Bahl. Are they similar? They might be. They are both creations of the same mind. I grew up surrounded by Buntys and Rickys in Delhi. It's important to use the spoken language that one hears around oneself for the characters."

While writing Ranveer's second character, Habib made a concerted effort to make them sound different. "Ranveer's Bittu and Ricky both have their linguistic peculiarities. They both speak the way I think they should. I often see the characters in our films speaking a language that no one speaks any more. I can guarantee you that Ranveer will sound as conversational and real in Ladies v/s Ricky Bahl as he did in Band Baaja Baraat."

Though Habib has given Ricky Bahl his own speech patterns, Ranveer is still somewhere stuck on Bittu in Band Baaja Baraat. It was hoped that the rigorous workshops in the last few weeks would flush Bittu out of Ranveer.

Defends Habib, "It isn't Ranveer's fault. We had workshops for him to get into his new character. But the shooting began immediately after. There was no time for him to absorb his new character."

Says the writer Habib Faizal, "I think somewhere Bittu has become a part of Ranveer's persona. But he's a brilliant character. And I'm sure we'll see a different side of him as Ricky Bahl. I am waiting for the day when Ranveer's SMSes begin to echo the speaking patterns of Ricky."

Easier said than done. Habib is now in the process of writing a third film for Ranveer which would take him completely away from the Bittu-Ricky zone.

Says Habib, "As a writer and as a director it is challenging for me to move away from whatever I've already attempted. The film that I'm directing after Do Dooni Char will be diametrically different in culture spirit and content. I don't want to be branded the Delhi specialist."

`Luv Ka The End` based on my own heartbreak: Shenaz

Former MTV `It girl` Shenaz Treasurywala who has written the script of `Luv Ka The End`, says that the Yash Raj film is autobiographical.

Just like the character played by Shraddha Kapoor in this teen comedy, Shenaz was cheated by her ex-boyfriend and she too plotted revenge like the protagonist.

"Every character in the film is an exaggeration of someone I know. Luv Nanda (the character played by newcomer Taaha Shah in the film) is an ex-boyfriend who broke my heart. I dreamed and schemed every night of getting even just like Rhea does in the film," the model-actress told reporters.

And Shenaz who made her Bollywood debut with the Shahid Kapoor starrer `Ishq Vishq` in 2003, said that she is finally getting back with the film.

"This guy even had a slimy, fat friend exactly like Gollu who I hated. Also Timmy was his all brawn brother from another mother. I am getting my revenge now, 10 years later," said Shenaz who also has a guest appearance in it.

"Yes, I play this hot nymphomaniac school teacher. I remember having a teacher like that in college," said the 29-year-old.

Other than `Luv Ka The End`, an American soap titled `One Life To Live` is keeping her busy.

"Yes, I have been on this soap since November and have been shooting almost everyday. I feel blessed being a working actor in New York as I have been acting more than ever," said Shenaz.

Talking about her future plans, Shenaz said, "I would really like to be commissioned to write more scripts. I want `Dreading My Wedding` to get made as soon as possible. I want to host and write a `Sex in the City` type travel show. And of course act in more films, soaps, sitcoms in both Bollywood as well as Hollywood. I want to be a bi-continental working actor and writer."

Shraddha copied her dad to bag ‘Luv Ka The End’

The lead character of ‘Luv Ka The End’ (LKTE) pretty much carries the story of the film. So when it came to the casting, the makers needed someone who was not just a good looker and dancer, but also someone who could act well.

Considering the fact that whoever would be signed on to be the first lead of Y-Films would get into a contract for 3 films, it was a big thing. Naturally, it turned out to be a most grueling audition process spread over 7 days, 5 intense scenes including a massive breakdown, 3 dances, and more. But eventually, what got Shraddha Kapoor the part was more than her talent to act.

According to unit sources, producer of ‘LKTE’ Ashish Patil is a big fan of Shakti Kapoor and he asked her to do an "AAOU" like her dad. Without a moment’s hesitation, Shraddha jumped and not only did that but also a "Crime-master go-go", a "balmaaaaa", a "Nandu sabka bandhu" and lots more.

“She basically captured the personality, the irreverence of the Y-Films brand and turned out to be someone with no inhibitions. Highly impressed with Shraddha, the makers were sure that she would nail this role. And that’s how Shraddha Kapoor became Rhea Dialdas in LKTE,” added the sources.

Aaou! Kya baath…!

"Yes, I'm doing Kabir Khan's film" - Salman Khan

"I don't want to wear red underwear outside to be a Super Man, I just want to be Sal-Man," Salman Khan famously said at the music launch of Ready recently. In a Bollywood Hungama Exclusive Video Interview, Khan put the record straight once-n-for-all by saying, "Ya I am doing Kabir Khan's film." Is it a super hero film? "No, it is not a super hero film. It is a hero's film," Salman said. On being asked if Katrina Kaif is paired with him in Kabir Khan's film, Salman nodded in affirmation.

Inside the Making of the Mutton Song- Luv Ka The End!

Coming up on Friday May 6th, is Luv Ka the End from the new banner Y-films. Over the weeks leading up to the release we have shown you that the projects Y-films is going to make are not your average filmi films. They are different in vibe, in story, in actors, in directors, and well in Item numbers! We are talking about The Mutton Song, which is most definitely one of the most unique item songs ever done. Check out what went into creating this crazy but fresh number!

THE IDEA BEHIND THE MUTTON SONG
This song was not a part of the plan. We were going to a have a seduction song in the climax where the heroine takes down the bad guy and that was it. The concern was that it was becoming too clichéd. Too been there, done that. At Y-Films, we didn't wanna do that. So we just went ahead and did away with that. We created something that the world will refer to as the reinvention of the item number. This is the kinda stuff the girls will love to watch. But don't mistake this for an attempt at just humour. Catch debutant actor, Taaha Shah spring a surprise of sexiness to this video with his superb dance performance. He is going to put many hot ladies to shame in Bollywood.

THE MUTTON SONG - HOW IT WAS MADE
The way this happened was a silly joke that the music director, Ram Sampath was playing with and he wanted it to be treated in a very rasta/street like manner. But, the film's producer Ashish Patil latched onto it. And we were on our way to recording the Mutton song. But we needed words. And that came with Amitabh Bhattacharya's insane lyrics.

THE LYRICS OF THE MUTTON SONG
Amitabh Bhattacharya, one of the biggest lyricist sensation in recent times was brought in to weave the words. When the words happened, Amitabh cracked the shayiri first. The rest of the words were classic Urdu, qawalli like. But there was something in 'Multiplex mein mehkhana' that made it so 'Item'. The play between English and Hindi was crazy. So we decided to ditch the Urdu and Amitabh cracked these outrageous lyrics that got recorded. These have been unheard of. The writing smacks of eccentricity and is just the work of pure genius.

THE VOICE OF THE MUTTON SONG
The Mutton song had weird music lyrics and a tharki beat. But it now needed a voice. Krishna Beura was roped in to add to the mayhem. We wanted someone who had a powerful qawal voice, yet had the funky English touch. And we were aiming very high with this track. Including the pitch of the voice. Krishna took it to an altogether new level with his rendition of the lyrics. While singing, he would go,"Ab mujh mein Altaf Raja ka bhoot aaya hai" and he would do a version like that. It worked. And then, there would be some more. 5 versions happened. In the song, a mallu waiter happened. A Chinese martial artist happened. A goat's sound happened. This is all Krishna's doing. Rendition after rendition, the song was evolving into something new. Something that had never been tried before. The regular lines like 'Hit it one more time' became 'Serve it one more time' with the waiter angle. This was one wicked recording. And that's how the biggest item number of this century was born.

THE VIDEO OF THE MUTTON SONG
Taaha is quite the "method actor". He left no stone unturned to make sure he nailed the Mutton Song specially since he was competing with Munni and Sheila. But that's not how it began. It started with the styling. We tried at least 5 different ghagra cholis on Taaha Shah before we locked the final one. Some we rejected because they were too close to Kajra Re. During look tests, we wanted to show more cleavage, show off his hairy chest. At this point, Taaha was slowly learning to let go of his inhibitions. And then, suddenly, the pouting happened. Taaha did it and then there was magic. Taaha's make-up room was far away from the location. Initially, he was given a bathrobe to wear and come to the location for the shoot. But, after a point, he lost his inhibitions and his bathrobe. He started flirting with all the crew and making faces at them. Since the shoot was in a hotel in Thane, there would be times when Taaha would get into the elevator with a regular family. And then, he would pout, bite his lips. This saw the rise of a far more professional actor in a debutant like Taaha. He had suddenly turned into a method actor. He started living the role. And he charmed many while he did this.

THE CASTING OF THE MUTTON SONG
Thanks to the choreographer, Adil Shaikh, the casting for the Mutton song added a most unexpected layer. The song is a landmark item number because it is a tribute to all the iconic item numbers that have preceded it. Some of the classic extras from vintage item number extras are a part of this video.

Take Bulbulji for instance. He was the guy with the afro singing "kullu kullu" on Laila mein Laila. Or Deepakji from Hothon pe aise baat mein churake chali aayi. The Mutton song is special for so many reasons. If other films are bringing back old songs with new remixes, Y-Films is bringing back the performers from those times. That&'s how you pay a tribute.

THE MUTTON SONG - EXTENDED
Initially, the Mutton song was supposed to be briefly shot. The plan was to shoot just the first verse. But once the video happened, it was certified mental. No one had ever seen such a thing. Or done it for that matter. The sexiness and the craziness of the song asked for more. Everyone got so excited that we went back and shot the rest of the song. And that's how half kilo mutton became full kilo mutton.

Show me Aamir's contract: Salman

Even though Salman Khan agreed to work with Aditya Chopra for Kabir Khan's film, the actor who is childlike and straight-forward is sceptical of working with people outside his own comfort zone.

In other words, Salman is happier working with family and close friends because then he doesn't have to bother with things like remuneration and other details. His family (read: dad Salim Khan) protects him.

A source says, "However when it came to drawing up a contract for Adi's film (read: SRK's buddy), bhai was hesitant. He allegedly requested his manager to get him a copy of Aamir Khan's Dhoom-3 contract with the Chopras. Aamir's contract then became the template for bhai with some minor changes like the actual remuneration figure, release date etc."

Salman and Aamir are very close. They do confer with one another on several personal and professional issues. Neither of the two superstars is comfortable talking about their relationship, however one gets the feeling that they "lookout" for each other.

Aamir's girl being trained for Dhoom

In February TOI was the first to tell you that Aditya Chopra was keen on a nubile nymphet opposite Aamir Khan in Dhoom-3.

It is said the girl will be required to do some passionate kisses with Aamir and even strut her stuff in a bathing costume. And now, Aditya Chopra has sent out an official press release saying that they were indeed signing a fresh face for this thriller.

Well it seems that a young girl from North India has already been shortlisted and is now housed on the YRF studio premises. She is being trained physically and mentally for the challenge of one of the most sought after roles of 2012. Guess what Katrina Kaif, Priyanka Chopra and Deepika Padukone are disappointed to say the least.

(TOI)

Why Priyanka refused Kabir Khan's film

From the start Kabir Khan has been wanting his New York leading lady Katrina Kaif in his film opposite Salman Khan.

However, Aditya Chopra and even the hero, Salman, were considering Priyanka Chopra for the female lead. It is said that Salman is ready to grant Adi 120 days to film the thriller. However, he also wanted PC to give 120 days. Salman's funda is simple. He films at a certain pace; he cannot be hurried. And in the interest of the film and his way of functioning, Salman wanted Priyanka to be present on set whenever he was there.

Since he didn't want the usually over-committed PC to cite date hassles later, he asked Kabir to get 120 days from the heroine. However when PC heard this, she apparently threw a fit. She was keen to do the movie with Sallu, but she didn't want to give 120 days to the film; or sit on the set twiddling her thumbs when Salman arrived late. So she opted out and Kat who is very keen to do a movie with Salman volunteered to toe the line and offered her services.

All his terms and conditions are acceptable to Kat is what our source says.
