Yash Raj pitches highest ever terms for Aditya Chopra's film

It’s that time of the year when Yash Raj Films signs its annual agreement with multiplexes for its slate of forthcoming films.

This year's slate includes in-house films such as Tashan, Kunal Kohli's untitled film, Siddharth Anand’s Bachna Ae Haseeno, animated flick Roadside Romeo and Aditya Chopra’s Rab Ne Bana Di Jodi. Apart from these, Yash Raj will also distribute Krazzy 4 produced by Rakesh Roshan in a few territories in India.

From all the above mentioned films Krazzy 4 will be the first to hit theatres on 11 April. YRF is distributing this film in all territories except Delhi - UP, Punjab and Bengal. They are looking at a revenue share of 50, 45 for Bombay and 50, 50 for other cities. Krazzy 4 is directed by debutant Raja Sen. The film stars Juhi Chawla, Irrfan Khan, Arshad Warsi, Rajpal Yadav, Suresh Menon, Rajat Kapoor and Dia Mirza.

Of the other films Tashan is releasing on 25 April, Kunal Kohli's next releasing on 27 June, Bachna Ae Haseeno releasing on 15 August and Roadside Romeo releasing on 24 October, revenue sharing terms of 50, 45 are being looked at, which is the same as last year.

Shah Rukh Khan and Sonam starrer Rab Ne Bana Di Jodi will see Aditya Chopra directing a movie after a gap of eight years. His last film as a director was Mohabbatein in 2000. Rab Ne Bana Di Jodi will release on 12 December and for this film Yash Raj is looking at a share of 55, 50. This implies that from the total earning of the first week, 55 per cent will be Yash Raj's share, which is something that has never happened until now.

The negotiations between multiplexes and Yash Raj are in progress and the parties are expected to sign on the dotted lines soon, as the first film from the slate Krazzy 4 will hit theatres next week.

Until now, other corporates in the industry have vied for revenue same as Yash Raj's for some of their high profile projects. Now, with Yash Raj taking this a notch ahead, it needs to be seen how other filmed entertainment companies will react to this; especially if the decision is arrived at in YRF’s favour at 55 per cent or even any other figure higher than 50.

Initially, the terms for all Yash Raj films for 2007 namely Tara Rum Pum, Jhoom Barabar Jhoom, Chak De! India, Laaga Chunari Main Daag and Aaja Nach Le were agreed upon at 50, 45. However, none of the movies barring Chak De! India worked wonders at the box office. Hence Yash Raj Films waved off the revenue terms by 5 percent, making it 45, 40.

When contacted by Businessofcinema.com, Yash Raj officials refused to comment on the development.

Sridevi to make a comeback

Bollywood diva Sridevi will dazzle the silver screen once again and its none other than Yash Chopra who is scripting her comeback. The reigning queen of the 80's n 90's Sridevi was spoken about by Yash Chopra.

Yash Chopra revealed the same while Sridevi was being felicitated as the living legend of Bollywood. Fans of the superstar will be awaiting her comeback onto the silver screen and what better than doing a movie under the Yashraj banner.

Yash Chopra said that they were working on two scripts and praised Sridevi as he said that she is a wonderful actress. Bollywood veteran actor Rishi Kapoor too only sung praises for his Chandini. He said, "Sridevi is iconic and people have tried to model on her."

Interestingly though the once hit pair with tremendous on screen chemistry did not even acknowledge each other at the event. But film maker Yash Chopra couldn't stop raving about them and said that the duo shared a good chemistry between each other. With the two yesteryear superstars not even acknowledging each others existence, we wonder if its much ado about nothing.

Is Saif apprehensive about Kunal Kohli's next?

Basking in the big initial success of RACE, actor Saif Ali Khan is not unduly worried about the lackadaisical promotion of his next film, TASHAN. Saif explains that he does not experience the same kind of anxiety for TASHAN, as he felt for RACE because TASHAN is associated with a top banner like Yash Raj, who are the best in the field of entertainment.

Interesting as it may sound, but there is another project which Saif is a bit apprehensive about and that is Kunal Kohli's next with Rani Mukherjee. Yes, its the same film where Rani plays a fairy. Saif says that he is very anxious to see how the audience would like him in that role, which according to Saif is very close to his heart. He adds that he loves his cool role, 'not MARY POPPINS kind, but very it'!

Very tongue-in-cheek Saif quips that Kunal Kohli is not finalizing the title of his film on purpose. The reason is that Kunal wants the film to be known as a Kunal Kohli production (his first), for as long as possible! The film is being presented by Yash Raj Films.

No differences between John and Aditya!

ohn Abraham was lucky enough to taste success with his debut vehicle, JISM. Though he acted in a number of films but real stardom came his way with Yash Raj's Sanjay Gadhvi directed, DHOOM, which made John a youth icon. The film also marked the first major success for Aby's baby, Abhishek Bachchan. After DHOOM, John was once again seen in Yash Raj's critically acclaimed KABUL EXPRESS, directed by Kabir Khan.

However, John turned down the same banner's JHOOM BARABAR JHOOM because he did not want to play second fiddle to his DHOOM co-star, Abhishek Bachchan. The role ultimately went to Bobby Deol and was so well executed that some of the critics went to the extent of calling it the saving grace of the film. It was also instrumental in giving a new lease of life to the junior Jatt's sliding career.

Post DHOOM the scenario was bleak for John with most of his movies like SALAAME-ISHQ, BAABUL, WATER and NO SMOKING to name a few, sinking at the ticket window. The only successful movie that John could boast of was Priyadarshan's GARAM MASALA, way back in 2005 and even the credit for the success went to the Akki-Priyan team.

Things became worse with rumours that Aditya Chopra was miffed with John for having turned down JBJ, but as they say, Bombay's rain and Bollywood's equations are highly unpredictable, and things are really looking up for the handsome hunk.

As we all know that John is back once again with the Yash Raj banner, putting to rest all talks of differences with Aditya Chopra. Yes, John will be seen in Kabir Khan's next project, along with another rising star in Bollywood, Neil Nitin Mukesh and the audience's number one actress, Katrina Kaif. Moreover, there is a buzz that Yash Raj films is planning another multistarrer and we hear that John will play one of the lead roles in that project. So that should shut up the gossip mongers once and for all.

Here is wishing the heartthrob of countless female fans, John Abraham a highly successful comeback in 2008!

Yash Chopra on IPO and other fund-raising options

Film production and distribution house Yash Raj Films is yet to take a call on an IPO, but it has nothing to do with the current market condition, says Yash Chopra, who spearheads YRF. He spoke to DNA Money’s Nivedita Mookerji and Nirmal John on the sidelines of the Frames conclave, which concluded on Thursday. Excerpts:

Is Yash Raj Films planning a joint venture with any of the international film studio banners?
Walt Disney is Yash Raj Films’ co-producer in the animation film Roadside Romeo, which is releasing on Diwali. This is the only international venture we have so far and we finalised it last year.

Any plans to strike an alliance with a foreign partner?
As of now, there are no international ventures. It’s true that people are talking to us. But unless something is finalised, I can’t talk about it.

What’s the news on the IPO front?
There’s no decision on an IPO yet. The IPO buzz is only a conjecture. This year we have five films, next year we want to raise the figure to 7-8 films. If need be, we may go for an IPO. If not, we won’t.

Are you waiting for the markets to recover in a big way?
A couple of months ago, the markets were all right. Yet, we did not go for an IPO. It’s important for us to make up our own minds on whether to go for an IPO or not.
At this point, we have not made up our minds to go for an IPO.

Is there any other fund-raising route that you are looking at? There were talks about private-equity firm Blackstone striking a joint venture with the Yash Raj group. Isn’t it?
The Blackstone buzz was mainly because people saw me with Akhil Gupta, the India head of Blackstone. It was not about business. I’ve known him very well for many years.

Is there any other private-equity deal expected soon?
People do approach us, but we have not taken a decision on such things. At present, I want to concentrate only on making movies.

How are you raising funds?
All from internal accruals.

Do you have any overseas expansion plans?
No. We have operations in the UK, US, Canada and Dubai, besides India. We don’t want to go to small territories.

Does your home entertainment division have any plans to reduce prices of DVDs, CDs and VCDs?
No, I think we want to respect our product.

Do you face competition from the likes of Moser Baer (which sells DVDs at Rs 34)?
Yes, the competition is huge and serious. But the prices are not an ego question. It is about business and marketing strategy. Each one makes his own choice based on that strategy.

SRK, Yash Raj films & Rajinikanth clash!

As interesting as the headline is the story itself. If reports smoking out of Bollywood are to be believed then we can witness the clash of Titans, we mean with regards to the film industry.

Red Chillies VFX, Yash Raj FIlms and Rajinikanth's daughter Soundarya's Ocher Studios will be vying with each other in the National Association of Broadcasters show to be held in Las Vegas on April 15.

The three production houses will also be making their presentations. Reports suggest that the production houses will also extend their service to not just desi but foreign films as well. The highest billing among these three production houses has been given to given to SRK's Red Chillies VFX. Not to mention that SRK's production has ventured into making animation films as well.

Rajinikanth's Ocher Studios has ventured in to the production and making of the animated film 'Sultan - The warrior', with a whooping budget of 70 crore rupees. Reports indicate that there is tough competition existing between Red Chillies VFX and Ocher Studios. And with Yash Raj films too coming out with an animation film titled 'Roadside Romeo' the competition is getting stiffer.

Now the best we can do is just wait till the calender turns April 15th and watch who gets picked as the best!

FICCI 2008 : Chopra Comes Down Hard On Vandalism Against Censored Movies

FICCI Frames 2008, the annual convention of the media and entertainment industry got underway in Mumbai today. The three-day event will cover the entire gamut of media and entertainment like films, TV, radio, digital entertainment, animation, gaming, visual effects, etc. Over 1,500 delegates are expected to attend the convention.

The highlight of the first day was Yashraj Films head, veteran filmmaker Yash Chopra, who came down hard on political opposition and vandalism against censored movies. Without naming his own 'Aaja Nachle' and UTV's 'Jodhaa Akbar', both victims of vandalism. Chopra asked the Information And Broadcasting Ministry officials to consult the Supreme Court and work out a plan of action against rogue organisations indulging in acts vandalism.

The secretary in the I&B Ministry Asha Swarup assured Yash Chopra of necessary action and also regretted the unnecessary and unlawful protests against both 'Aaja Nachle' and 'Jodhaa Akbar'.

Fanaa in Gujarat After Two Years

Fanaa managed to find its way into a Gujarat theatre after two years. The film which was released in May 2006 was banned in the state at the time of release.

Fanaa was released at Relief Cinema in Ahmedabad on Friday to a good response the business over three days was 73,000 (67%).

Due to the ban in Gujarat, Fanaa lost around 5 crore nett business which would have amounted to around 2.75 crore extra revenue for the producers Yashraj Films.

Tashan Promotion Late Due To Race

Tashan which is to be released in five weeks time has had no music release yet and the publicity campaign has not taken off with just an initial teaser doing the rounds.

The reason for this is the similarity of Tashan and Race, the promos that were expected to come for Tashan would give the feeling that the film is similar to Race so different promos have been made which will hit the television screens soon. The films may be different but posters and promos may have made the two films look similar so YRF have made changes to their publicity campaign.

TASHAN music - Hot and much anticipated

Yash Raj Films didn't have a great 2007 when it came to music of their films.

Barring JHOOM BARABAR JHOOM that had some foot tapping music by Shankar, Ehsaan and Loy and made some impact in the charts, neither AAJA NACHLE [Salim Sulaiman] nor LAAGA CHUNARI MEIN DAAG [Shantanu Moitra] worked. TA RA RUM PUM [Vishal and Shekhar] and CHAK DE INDIA [Salim Sulaiman] were moderate successes but none lived up to the legacy of Yash Raj Films. All of this makes TASHAN an exceedingly important project for the production house that opens its account with this actioner in 2008.

Vishal Dadlani chuckles, "Even if we say this to ourselves, TASHAN is a 'dhamaal' score in the offering. Shekhar and I are supremely confident about the music and we are sure music lovers won't be disappointed at all. It has the 'dhinchaak' element that is associated with the genre of a film like TASHAN.

Music lovers too are looking forward to the film's music. Says Shalini Burman (Branch Manager with a Delhi based bank) - "Frankly speaking, I was a tad disappointed with TA RA RUM PUM since it was more of a Yash Raj score than Vishal & Shekhar. When I play music composed by the duo, I expect a JHANKAAR BEATS or a MUSAFIR or a DUS, something which brings to fore their own style. I hope TASHAN has a lot more of them."

Dream comes true for Sonam

This dame who has been lying low key for quite sometime after her debut film 'Saawariya' has bagged yet another jackpot. Yes this time she has landed herself a role opposite none other that the King Khan. After Sonam acted in Sanjay Leela Bhansali's 'Saawariya' it was the hero of the film Ranbir who seemed to make a mark and Sonam had just one good film in her kitty with Dilli 6.

We now have confirmed news that Sonam Kapoor will act in an Aditya Chopra film which he himself is going to direct. This time she will be acting with the Badhshah of Bollywood. The film titled 'Rab Ne Bana De Jodi' will see a 40-year-old hero getting attracted to a 16-year-old heroine.

It seems the Yashraj had been hunting wild to find an appropriate heroine who would fit this role. The script demanded a typical Punjabi kudi who would fit the role like a glove. And finally when Aditya approached papa Anil Kapoor he was more than willing to make Sonam hope on to the Yashraj bandwagon.

With an interesting story like this in hand we hope Aditya makes a smashing re-entry into direction!

Lead actress found for RNBDJ ?

Talent hunts were held accross the country to find a suitable new face to start opposite Shahrukh Khan in Aditya Chopra's directional venture Rab Ne Bana Di Jodi, to release on December 12th. Still, all efforts failed and Chopra was left in quite a quandary. His film is to begin shooting soon, but he had no leading lady.

He searched around the clock for the perfect face, when in fact he ended up choosing an actress that has recently made an entry into the fraternity. Sonam Kapoor has reportedly been signed for the role, though no confirmation has been made by either party. Sources tell Mumbai Mirror that the film will be a love story between a 40 year-old man and a 16 year-old girl and Sonam fits the bill perfectly. Her character apparently has obvious traits of a Punjabi girl that Adi hasn't been able to find anywhere else.

However, since there has been no confirmation, things can always change at the last minute. For now, get ready for a completely new and fairly interesting jodi to hit the screens this December!

I was never on a drastic diet: Kareena

Kareena Kapoor has denied the report published in a Mumbai tabloid that she collapsed on the sets of Tashan owing to a crash diet.

At an event to promote a hair removing cream for which she is the brand ambassador, she revealed, “I know some newspaper carried the story but I would like to make it clear that I have never been on a drastic diet.”

Explaining how she managed to tone down her body so much, she said, “I worked very hard during training. Bharat Thakur is the one person who is responsible for this. His yoga institute has completely sculptured my body and I have eaten everything the way I wished to eat.”

Agreeing that she had decided to reduce weight for the film, she added, "I had done it to get a specific look in the film but now I’m back to my normal looks and weight. I never found any need to be on diet.”

Kareena also shared her health gyaan at the event. “What helps me stay in good shape is that I’m a pure vegetarian. I don’t put non vegetarian food in my stomach to increase unnecessary weight. Moreover, on regular basis I drink 8 to 10 glasses of water and also have green vegetables and healthy food. It not only reflects on skin which glows but also strengthens your hair. Nowadays at the age of 25 you can become a diabetic so it’s most important to be healthy and see to it that your regular diet has more vitamins and minerals in it,” she concludes.

Uday Chopra turns director ?

Uday Chorpa (son of Yash Chopra and brother of Aditya Chopra) isn't ready to don the director's hat just yet, but the future looks promising. First and foremost he will most likely assist his brother during the making of the SRK-starred Rab Ne Bana Di Jodi which will release on December 12th of this year. However, it seems quite likely that the youngest Chopra will take to direction in 2009 after trying his hand as an actor in Neal N' Nikki and the Dhoom series.

Yash Raj Films’ incredible line-up for 2008

What does it take to entertain audiences across the country year after year? What does it take to be recognized across the world as India’s pre-eminent movie studio with an unrivalled box office record and an unmatched commitment to great cinema? First of all, it takes fantastic stories. For example, the five fantastic stories that form the base for Yash Raj Films’ five releases in 2008.

First up, on the 25th of April, is “Tashan”, the directorial debut of Vijay Krishna Acharya, the scriptwriter of the mega blockbuster “Dhoom” and “Dhoom:2”. It is the intriguing story of an irreverent call center executive, a desi wannabe gangster, a beautiful femme fatale and a murderous gangster who loves nothing more than to kill people and practice his English. With a star cast of Akshay Kumar, Saif Ali Khan, Kareena Kapoor and Anil Kapoor, “Tashan” surely lives up to its name. But it’s the story underneath the loads of style that will make “Tashan” a must watch experience. If you thought, only Hollywood could combine style with substance, think again: so can “Tashan” – the ishtyle, the goodluck, the pharmoola!

On 27th June will arrive storyteller Kunal Kohli’s latest offering after the box office blockbusters “Hum Tum” and “Fanaa”. Starring Saif Ali Khan, Rani Mukerji, 4 kids with attitude and God and a unique storyline. Romance, comedy, drama, pathos, fantasy and more – all that you ever wanted in the darkness of a movie theater is there in the story of this film, which will be titled shortly.

On 15th August, Independence Day, Yash Raj Films will invite you to celebrate the fresh new story of “Bachna Ae Haseeno”, the third film from one of India’s new vanguard of exciting directors, Siddharth Anand. It stars the young scion of the legendary Kapoor family, Ranbir Kapoor as the carefree alpha male and the relationships he has with the 3 women in his life. Starring alongside Ranbir are Bipasha Basu, Minissha Lamba and Deepika Padukone in a story about loves lessons that you will never forget.

24th October sees a new chapter in Yash Raj Films’ expanding strides. That date will mark the release of the first full length animated feature film co-produced by the Studio along with Walt Disney Pictures, the world leaders in animation. “Roadside Romeo” spins the tale of a rich, cool, spoilt brat of a dog who is abandoned on the streets and now needs to fend with problems the likes of which he has never faced before. It features the voices of Saif Ali Khan, Kareena Kapoor and Jaaved Jaaferi and utilise state of the art computer animation done entirely in India. Written and directed by Jugal Hansraj, “Roadside Romeo” looks set to be a landmark in Indian cinema.

Exciting as these four diverse stories are in their own right, there is no doubt that excitement among Indian audiences will be at a fever pitch on the 12th of December. For that is the date on which Aditya Chopra will be back as director for the first time in eight years. For these past eight years, Aditya Chopra has concentrated his creative energies on building Yash Raj Films into India’s first production house built on the studio model and shaping it into a creative nerve centre that has nurtured some of India’s best screenwriters, directors and stars. But “Rab Ne Bana Di Jodi”, starring Shah Rukh Khan, will remind audiences (if anyone has forgotten) of the magic touch that has made “Dilwale Dulhania Le Jayenge” the longest running motion picture in Indian cinema history. While many of his stories and screenplays have been seen on screen in the last few years, including “Veer-Zaara”, which was helmed by his father Yash Chopra, the romantic confection of “Rab Ne Bana Di Jodi” looks set to capture hearts across the globe all over again.

Five stories, then. Five incredible films that encapsulate the magic of Yash Raj Films in five uniquely different ways. Five reasons to celebrate a wonderful 2008 with Yash Raj Films.

Rani Mukherji does dangerous stunts for her next!

After playing some really demure roles, Rani Mukherji has now taken a U-turn. In Yash Raj Films's next, directed by Kunal Kohli, she has done some heroic stunts for which she had to get her timing right, right down to a split second.

Mukherji had to balance herself on cable wires like Hrithik Roshan in Krissh 2. Confirming the same, Kohli says, "Rani underwent many rehearsals and trials for the stunt scenes. We shot on many outdoor locations in Mumbai, at Film City and inside the Yash Raj studios. At every place, we took utmost precaution. It could have been very dangerous if Rani had slipped. Thankfully, she pulled it off without retakes. This film will see a new Rani," Kohli adds.

We hear that special costumes have been designed for Rani for this film. Kunal says, "That's right. Manish Malhotra and action director Shyam Kaushal took care of that. She had to wear a specific kind of clothes before she could do the stunt scenes."

Rani plays an angel who descends to earth to look after business-executive Saif Ali Khan's children. So why does an angel need to do dangerous stunts? Kunal laughs, "That's the only question I can't answer. We would like to keep that a mystery, please."

Yash Raj Films' Dhoom:2 game to hit stores in April

A PC-based game on Yash Raj Films' 2006 blockbuster Dhoom:2 will be launched in the market by mid-April this year.

The game has been made on a budget of Rs 30 million (Rs 3 crores).

Hyderabad-based FX Labs has developed the game, which is tentatively titled D 2.5. All characters from the movie will be part of the game. The movie starred Hrithik Roshan, Abhishek Bachchan, Aishwarya Rai, Bipasha Basu and Uday Singh.

Speaking to Businessofcinema.com, Yash Raj senior manager internet and new media Anand Gurnani says, "The game will be marketed and distributed by Yash Raj Films. "Currently, we are giving final finishing touches to the game and it may be called D 2.5. We will lock in the marketing and distribution strategy in a few days."

Elaborating on the game, FX Labs founder and chairman Sashi Reddi says, "The game has been developed keeping in mind the Indian audience, therefore apart from the action, it also has some song and dance. Since we want to breakthrough at a mass level with this game, we have not complicated the game because it is necessary to keep in mind that majority Indians have not played a game."

The game has a play time of approximately four hours. A team of 40 people have developed the game over a period of 15 months. Based on the feedback D 2.5 receives, the game may further be developed for Sony's Playstation as well.

"Pehle aap" – Karan Johar tells buddy Aditya Chopra

Karan Johar is such a thick friend of director-producer Aditya Chopra that he has put his own project on the backburner for the sake of Aditya’s film.

It is common knowledge that Shah Rukh Khan will work with Karan Johar in Khan and with Aditya Chopra in Rab Ne Bana Di Jodi .

Karan’s film, starring SRK and Kajol , was to go on the floors in May. The director had already acquired SRK’s dates for the film. But it turned out that Aditya Chopra also wanted to shoot his film with SRK around the same time.

All Aditya had to do was ask Karan to give him SRK’s dates that the superstar had given for ‘Khan’. Without a second thought Karan gave the dates away.

Karan, who is not just a good friend of Aditya but also looks up to him as a filmmaker, says dates are a “minor issue” between friends.

In fact, Karan goes on to say in a media report that he is more excited about Aditya’s film than his own movie.

Aditya Chopra is returning to direction after a long gap of eight years with ‘Rab Ne Bana Di Jodi’. Karan’s film ‘Khan’ also marks his return to direction after Kabhi Alvida Naa Kehna .

As long as ‘Khan’ does not go on the floors, Karan will be busy with his home production Dostana .

Well, he has already shown a glimpse of his real dostana with Adi.

Kohli-ating with other banners!

The YRF loyalist had closed-door meetings with Warner Bros as well as UTV

Kunal Kohli is under an exclusive contract with Yash Raj Films, yet he is meeting other production houses, and talking business. It’s rumoured that the director now wants to branch out and launch his own production house.

Twice unlucky

The Fanaa director has been associated with the Yash Raj clan since last six years. Every director who debuts with YRF is signed for a three-film deal after which the director can move out and work with other banners.

This is Kunal’s second contract with YRF. He directed Mujhse Dosti Karoge (2002), Hum Tum (2004) and Fanaa (2006). After these, he stayed back with the Chopra camp and fetched a new contract for three other movies; with the added title of co-producer. The first of the three films is currently under production and stars Saif Ali Khan and Rani Mukerji.

Unhappy?

But now, things aren’t rosy between him and YRF, and he’s been negotiating with other banners to buy out his current contract. Reveals an insider, “Last week, Kunal met up with officials from Warner Bros and UTV.”

Kunal admits he met the Warner Bros official but denies the rest, “I know Les Fernandes, the head of Warner, socially but that doesn’t mean that I am talking to them about a move. I also keep meeting many other heads from different companies but it’s just film talk. I share a very good relation with Yash Raj and I am not contemplating a move away from them.”

Sreejita De with Akshay in Tashan

Sreejita De, who plays the chef in Star One's Annu Ki Hogayee Wah Bhai Wah is not new to facing cameras! For the uninitiated, the young and talented girl will be seen sharing screen space with Khiladiyon Ka Khiladi, Akshay Kumar in the soon to be released Tashan. Sreejita, a student of Mass Media was earlier seen in Ekta's Karam Apna Apna and Kasauti Zindagi Kay, in not so important roles.

Sreejita says, "I always wanted to play some substantial role and when I was short listed for DJ's new show Annu, I was very elated and felt very encouraged. The concept is very offbeat, yet people can relate to the situation through which Annu and her family go through". Looking forward to see Annu with Akki in Tashan!

Ranbir Kapoor says Bachna Ae Haseenon

Ranbir Kapoor's post-Saawariya project, a romantic musical for Yash Raj Films, had been struggling to find an appropriate title. Finally, it has one - Bachna Ae Haseenon, which harks back to his father's chartbuster.

"But I don't think we decided to name the film Bachna Ae Haseenon to suggest a link with my past. Sure, the song was a big R.D. Burman chartbuster in its time. My dad, mom and I are all huge fans of RDB," Ranbir told IANS.

"My parents' biggest hits were composed by him. But more than the instant connectivity, I think the title was selected because it's very apt for my film. It's about this guy's journey in life and his different encounters with various women," he added.

The film, which has the young superstar courting Bipasha Basu, Minissha Lamba and Deepika Padukone, is 60 percent complete and is expected to open on Aug 15.

Rani already engaged?

The media seems to know even the smallest happening in Bollywood with all those related to this vast industry. Lately, we had heard something smoking regarding the Aditya Chopra and Rani Mukherjee affair.

Now rumor is running wild that Aditya might have already gifted and engagement ring to the husky-voiced Bollywood beauty after he has applied officially for a divorce from his first wife. The divorce has been filed at the Bandra Court in Mumbai. The Aditya-Rani affair has not been approved by either Aditya's or Rani's parents. Aditya's parents still love and adore their Bahu, Payal, the wife of Aditya Chopra.

We have even come across some astrology websites trying to draw future predictions as to whether this Adi-Rani relationship will stand or fall. If rumors making the rounds are to be believed then it seems there was a secret encounter where Aditya gifted an engagement ring to Rani.

Though no word has emerged from either family regarding the engagement, all you folks out there watch out for Rani while she emerges in public, to see if she is sporting the tell-tale engagement ring on her ring finger.

With anything happening at any moment in the Bollywood circles we never know what will happen next, so till more stories emerge watch out this space for more interesting news!

Akki axed from Tashan promos

Akshay Kumar is miffed with Yash Raj Films for not giving him as much exposure as Saif Ali Khan and Kareena Kapoor in the Tashan promos. If sources are to be believed, the promos will singularly focus on Saif and Kareena.

It is only natural that Yash Raj Films is cashing in big time on the Saif-Kareena pairing, for their big ticket hit. However, it looks like there is another reason for Akshay being pushed out of the picture. We hear that Akshay had recently turned down a Yash Raj film, thus rubbing the Chopras the wrong way.

A source close to the production house says, “It’s true that Akshay turned down a Yash Raj film and the Chopras did not take it too well.” Adds the source, “After watching Akshay’s performance in Tashan, the Chopras wanted him to star in another project of theirs. However, he was not entirely convinced with the story and turned it down.”

The source further says, “Aditya believes that because of Yash Raj’s Dil To Pagal Hai , Akshay got a new image. Sadly, Akshay’s decision caught him off-guard.” We sent a text message to Akshay but he remained unavailable for comment.

SRK to co-produce with Yash Raj ?

After giving innumerous blockbuster movies, Shah Rukh Khan has proved that he rules Bollywood. According to our source at Yashraj Films, apparently SRK has decided to co-produce Aditya Chopra’s forthcoming film Rab Ne Bana Di Jodi.

A reliable source from the industry informed us that there is a secret deal between SRK and the Yash Raj Banner. According to the deal SRK will not charge the amount which he quotes for other banners, rather he will share the profit with the Yash Raj Banner.

It can be recalled that Yash Raj had several releases last year out of which only Chak De India did well at the box office. Apparently the success of CDI might have compelled SRK to co-produce his next film with Yash Raj.

When Indiatimes Movies got in touch with Shah Rukh Khan to confirm the news, he denied in one word “No”.

“SRK has proved that he is the most popular actor of Bollywood. However, his confidence proves that he can be a successful producer who can sell his film. Though it’s a secret pact, Yash Raj will make an official announcement on right time”, affirms the source.

Rab Ne Bana Di Jodi has been written by Aditya Chopra. It will be his third film as a director. Reportedly Aditya will introduce a new girl opposite Shah Rukh Khan. The film will commence in May and is slated to release by the end of 2008.

It’s a time will tell situation, whether SRK will feature into this co-production..
