'Pyaar Impossible' not a classic: Priyanka

Priyanka Chopra says "Pyaar Impossible" is one of the sweetest and simplest films she's done. And she doesn't want people going in for the movie expecting a classic like "Mughal-e-Azam".

"Please don't look for any complications in 'Pyaar Impossible' because there aren't any," Priyanka told IANS.

She has essayed a complex character in "Fashion" and 12 roles in "What's Your Raashee?" and that's why Priyanka wants to make it clear that her next is just a breezy romantic comedy.

"It's not necessary that all love stories have to be complicated. So many times it is the simplicity factor that comes out trumps and 'Pyaar Impossible' is one such film."

"Please don't start hunting for a classic tale a la 'Mughal-e-Azam' here because that was never the intent," Priyanka said.

"We wanted to make a feel good fun film that can be identified by the teens and youth and tells their story while keeping the entertainment value intact. One should just enter the theatre with a bag full of popcorn and enjoy those couple of hours," she added.

She is paired opposite Uday Chopra, for whom "Pyaar Impossible" is a comeback of sorts. The actor, who made his debut nine years ago with "Mohabbatein" (2000), was last seen in "Dhoom 2" (2006).

"Pyaar Impossible" is produced by him under the Yash Raj Films banner and directed by Jugal Hansraj.

'Pyaar Impossible' is the story of a geek called Abhay (Uday), who falls in love with the most beautiful girl in the campus, Alisha (Priyanka). While most people believe this love story would be impossible, some also wonder if fate would get the two together and if this 'pyaar' would indeed turn out to be 'possible'.

"That's where the real sweet elements about the film come in because the girl truly believes that geek or no geek; it's the intrinsic good qualities of one's own self that make people fall in love with you. On the other hand, the boy believes that good looks do matter. This is what kick starts the entire point of view of possibility of love in contrasting individuals," Priyanka explained.

This is why she is particularly fond of the title song where she is dressed as a geek in a manner similar to that of Uday's character in the film. With spectacles on, unkempt hair, loose T-Shirt and baggy shorts, she follows the geek look to the T, as instructed by Uday who challenges her that she can never find a guy looking like a geek.

"I take this challenge while being quite sure that men would look deeper into me than just the looks. All of this is conveyed through the title song which has been picturised in such a sweet manner. Do I eventually get a guy for myself? Well, watch out for that in the film," she said.
Also starring Dino Morea in a special appearance along with Anupam Kher, "Pyaar Impossible" is set to release in January.

TV was natural progression: Yash Chopra

Filmmaker Yash Chopra, whose YRF film company has ventured into television software, says the small screen was a natural progression for his 38-year-old production house.

January one, 2010 will mark the entry of YRF TV, a subsidiary of Yash Raj Films (YRF) on Sony Television.

The company has produced five week-end shows ushering in a pool of new talent in form of writers, directors and actors. The highlight would be Karan Johar's 'Lift Kare De', a reality show featuring 20 top stars of the Hindi film industry.

Chopra said the television arm of his production house was the brainchild of his elder son Aditya, who devoted his energies to set up the television content company after release of 'Rab Ne Bana Di Jodi' in December last year.

"YRF began on September 27, 1971 when Aditya was a few months old. Twenty five years later, the company crossed its first milestone when Aditya directed DDLJ which created box office history," he said.

"We started our distribution office in India and two years later in UK. The second milestone was setting up of the YRF studios in 2004. Television was a natural progression and we hope to bring our cinematic vision on television as well," Chopra added.

He said Sony television was the natural choice as a partner because YRF's complete catalogue was with the channel and the two had a good business partnership.

Chopra said YRF TV is an initiative to engage and entertain the entire family through content which combines high quality production values with contemporary story telling-characters, language and environment to which today's family can relate.

N P Singh, COO of Sony Entertainment Television said the channel is committed to give its fiction shows a contemporary look.

"The effects of slowdown was witnessed in early 2009. But, the scenario has improved," he said.

'Lift Kara De' features one superstar and their biggest fan each week. 'Mahi Way' is a contemporary presentation of a young urban girl, 'Rishta.com' is today's take on the institution of marriage.

'Seven' will be television's first of its kind cutting edge special effects action adventure show while 'Powder' will see coming of age of thrillers on television, he added.

Rishi and Ranbir would have come together in Rocket Singh but..

Father-son duo Ranbir and Rishi Kapoor will only be seen together in a film that Ranbir will direct late next year. Not only does the young actor want to create roles that would do justice to both his father and him, Ranbir also wants to ensure that the pair is presented in the best way possible.

Ironically, the two almost came together in roles that cast them in mutual conflict. If all had gone well, Rishi and Ranbir Kapoor would have come together for the first time in Shimit Amin's Rocket Singh, though not as father and son. Everyone at Yash Raj Films was keen that Rishi play Ranbir's scheming boss, (eventually played by the lesser-known Manish Choudhary).

Reveals a source, "The Yash Raj team was all for casting Rishi as Ranbir's boss. Only Adi thought audiences would not accept Rishi Kapoor as a negative boss to his own son. We had to relent."

Kapoor Sr confirms, "I was told everyone at Yash Raj wanted me to play the role. They finally decided otherwise." Also, Rishi is all praise for the actor who replaces him in the film. "Manish is the discovery of the year."

5 reasons to watch Rocket Singh

/photo.cms?msid=5319161

Ranbir Kapoor – Star of the year

To start with, it has to be Ranbir Kapoor – plainly on his face value. With two back to back hits in the form of Wake Up Sid and Ajab Prem Ki Ghajab Kahani , Ranbir Kapoor has become the next big thing in Bollywood. Naturally expectations are rife from his third film in a row and fans are expecting a hattrick hit from Ranbir’s Rocket Singh .

/photo.cms?msid=5319162

Singh is King

Second reason is Ranbir Kapoor again – as a Sardar this time. After actors like Saif Ali Khan ( Love Aaj Kal ), Akshay Kumar ( Singh is Kinng ) and Salman Khan ( Heroes ) having played a strong Sardar character in films recently, its Ranbir Kapoor’s turn to get under the turban and play a Sardar. And this Sardar is certainly colourful – his cool and colourful pagdi are a proof to the fact.

/photo.cms?msid=5319167

Chak De team

When was the last time you felt that Yash Raj Films have delivered a masterpiece? In between all their mediocre films from Dil Bole Hadippa to Laaga Chunari Mein Daag , Chak De India was the last superlative film they served to the audiences. Rocket Singh comes from the same team of Chak De India with writer Jaideep Sahni and director Shimit Amin teaming up for another entertainer. Expect this to be as much enjoyable.

Surprise Packets: Shazahn and Gauhar

The female leads of the film have almost been kept under the wraps. More surprisingly when one of them is making her film debut. The gorgeous Shazahn Padamsee, daughter of Alyque Padamsee and Sharon Prabhakar, makes her debut with this film. Also Gauhar Khan who has been doing itsy bitsy item numbers in films so far, gets a meaty role in this film. Seems like they are the surprise packets of the film!

/photo.cms?msid=5319164

‘Breezy’ tunes

Salim-Sulaiman’s music for the film comprises of only three tracks though all of them are blockbuster hits by now. The zanily picturized music video shot on Ranbir Kapoor is a big hit. Also the film reprises a popular song from the 80s. The Hawa Hawa song composed and sung by Pakistani singer Hassan Jahangir will be used in the film. Today’s youth would love to relive their childhood days.

ROCKET SINGH: Marketing strategy of the year

Can ROCKET SINGH: SALESMAN OF THE YEAR be considered as the point of disruption for the Hindi cinema for the year 2009? Well, the premise is being postulated owing to the fact that though Yash Raj films is releasing it, and inspite of whose who of the film world in the form of Shimit Amin, Jaideep Sahni and above all Ranbir Kapoor who has given two of the biggest films of the year AJAB PREM KI GHAZAB KAHANI and WAKE UP SID being associated with ROCKET SINGH, the film has been really keeping low profile in terms of selling it as a marketing proposition is concerned.

ROCKET SINGH: SALESMAN OF THE YEAR plans to return to the old era of movie viewing where movies picked up the momentum as the week advanced into weeks based on word of mouth publicity, and brings the audience back into the cinema halls without any bombardments in the form of marketing devices. It is not at all backing on the first weekend footfalls to rev up the collections. From this perspective it indeed is a step backward into the world of marketing of films where the marketing wizards did not decide the promotion of the films, but it was the audience which set the course of the film.

If one were to look into the oeuvre of the past of the duo of Shimit Amin and Jaideep Sahni, this fact indeed would emerge as a recurring motif. No amount of publicity was done for the last film of the duo CHAK DE INDIA, but it broke box office records and also deconstructed Shah Rukh Khan for the world, pealed away from his gloss and suave image to a rugged individual who lives and dies for the country. Shimit Amin in fact had not resorted to any marketing ploy for his first film AB TAK CHAPPAN as well.

Back of the envelope calculation would also have made sense to let ROCKET SINGH: SALESMAN OF THE YEAR talk about itself as the amount of money spent on pre-publicity these days is so phenomenal that a small budget movie can roll in with that amount. Coupled with it is also the fact that earlier offering from Yash Raj Banner could not score a honeymoon with the audience during the current year, it indeed seems to be a prudent decision.

If ROCKET SINGH: SALESMAN OF THE YEAR breaks the dependence of marketing for a film to carry through, it would indeed bring in the golden era of Hindi cinema once again.

Rocket Singh Salesman Of The Year Ranbir Kapoor Interview

Q1.) What was your reaction when you read the script and that you would be playing a sardar in the film?

Ans:- Well Bachna Ae Haseeno had not released at that time and Adi (Aditya Chopra) called me and said, “just react to this title: Rocket Singh – Salesman of The Year”. He didn’t tell me who the writer or director was. It didn’t really hit me that it was a film about a Sardar, when he briefly told me about the idea of the film. It was then that he told me that Jaideep (Sahni) and Shimit (Amin) had been working on the script and Shimit was planning to direct it. I was ecstatic because I am a big fan of Jaideep and Shimit‘s work and just to get a film written by Jaideep and directed by Shimit and produced by YRF was just overwhelming for me”. But it is not being a Sardar that excited me about playing the role. I am playing a man who happens to be a Sardar. It’s the story , the Director, the Production house and the character that got me excited to do the film.

Q 2.) This is your first film with Shimit Amim. How was the experience?

Ans:- He is one of the finest human beings I have met. He is a bit of an introvert. He doesn’t over or under direct you. He has the right sensibilities of how he wants the actor to do a scene. He is extremely talented and gives you your space. I think he is fantastic. I am relatively new in this Industry and have not worked with so many Directors but certainly amongst the Directors I have worked with he is one of the best. It has been a humbling experience for me to be directed by him and to be speaking Jaideep’s lines.

Q3.)Your look in the film is completely different. What were your friends’ and family’s reaction?

Ans:- It was a “theda” (mixed) reaction. It took me 5 weeks to grow the beard. In these 5 weeks we tried different kinds of turbans because we wanted to get the turbans correct - the fabric, the colour pattern, length etc. Even while doing the readings I used to wear the turban so that I can get used to the fact that I am playing a sardar and it doesn’t look like I’ve just worn the turban for the sake of the character on the day of the shoot. But yes, for my family – well, my mother and nani are sardarnis so they were ecstatic and said that their wishes are fulfilled that my grandchild is playing a Sardar, so they were really happy. My friends were really happy that I am working with Shimit as a Director. Everyone is really intrigued and excited and there was a very positive buzz about the film even before I started.

Q4.) For your look in the film you grew a beard and did something with your eyebrow - did the people around recognize you?

Ans:- Because it is a character based film, we wanted to make it as real as possible. We didn’t want to put a fake beard so I took 5 weeks off and grew a natural beard. Thankfully I have a good growth so it didn’t take a long time. Even then, it was not that when I went out people didn’t recognize me. When we started the film, the buzz of the movie was such, that whenever we went - like we shot a lot on roads and actual streets of Mumbai - people saw a kind of familiarity with this character (which is Harpreet Singh Bedi) and people started connecting with me , as the character. It is nice when people see you and say that you are looking like a Sardar and you are not looking like Ranbir Kapoor. That’s when you succeed. Since the beginning, everyone – Shimit (Amin), Adi (Aditya Chopra) and Jaideep (Sahni) – told me time and again that I was not Ranbir Kapoor, or Raj of Saawariya , I was playing a character called Harpreet Singh Bedi. That way we made the film as real as possible.

Q 5.)The kada you are wearing - please tell us about it?

Ans;- The Kada I am wearing in the film, I remember, Yashji (Yash Chopra) personally got it from the Golden temple in Amritsar. I think it was as a blessing he gave it to me and also to give me an authentic look in the film. The team constantly checked if everything was perfect in my look and wardrobe, because we were playing real characters and at the end of the day we didn’t want to do anything inaccurate.

Q6.) Tell us something your character in Rocket Singh – Salesman of the Year.

Ans:- The character I play is called Harpreet Singh Bedi. He has just graduated from college, high time that he starts doing something about his life. He is really interested in Sales because more than marks and grades, it’s the intelligence and exposure, and the fact that you respect people, that matters to him more. I don’t want to say more because I want the audience to come and discover the film on their own.

Q 7.) Do you identify with the character?

Ans;- Absolutely. Because I think the character is about the youth of the country. It’s about the youth consumed by the desire of the brighter future, youth with the honesty and integrity and a clear heart. They want to earn money obviously, but they have to choose a path and do it in the right way. You can choose between the two paths. And the path that Harpreet chooses is really brave. What he does is amazing!

Q8.) Did you have to work on the language?

Ans:- As I said before, Harpreet is a boy from Mumbai. All his friends are modern. He goes for parties, he plays cricket. Because he is a boy from the fourth generation there is not much use of Punjabi. But his grandfather, played by Prem Chopra comes from Punjab. So the way he dresses, the kind of language he uses, the kind of turbans he wears is different from what Harpreet wears. So everything is kept in its individual places and kept as real as possible.

Q9.) There are many characters in the story. How did you feel working with them?

Ans:- It was phenomenal. I felt like a fish just out of water. There is so much talent. They deserve so much more than I have got in just two films. The passion for their work! We all became a part of a family, it was amazing. It was so infectious and it drove us all to give more to the film.

Q10.) Tell us a secret about Harpreet Singh Bedi?

Ans:- I don’t think Harpeet has any secret . He is that kind of a boy whose life is an open book. He is not calculative or manipulative. If he does something, he does it with his heart. I think that is what is amazing about him.

Q11.) How was your experience of shooting with Shimit Amin in general?

Ans:- As I said, the experience was amazing, right from being offered the film, to interacting with Shimit and Jaideep, to shooting all over Mumbai, suburbs, streets. I don’t think there is any one memorable incident. I think the experience is very memorable, which I cherish. Because I learnt a lot from Shimit, alot from Jaideep, Harpreet and all the characters. And that’s more important and memorable than any one other incident.

Q12.) How was it playing Office – Office?

Ans:- I was totally alien to this world. Shimit wanted me to have a look at how an office runs, so we used to hang out in the Yash Raj corporate offices to go and see how the atmosphere is. He showed me some DVDs just to see how offices are run. Even when our set was made , it was an office and it was actually like we are going to office. Even when we were not shooting and got breaks we spent time there. So it was not like we were never out of office and were staying there and hanging out. Having your lunch there and interacting with your colleagues. Because of this we used to be so engrossed in our characters, that most of the time we used to call each other by our character names.

Ans:- Shimit and Jaideep have made the character so new that I couldn’t imagine anyone in it but I remember I had a friend called Jaikaran Juneja whom I have grown up with. He is a Sardar. He is as normal as you and me - you don’t have make it a caricature or make it an item. Harpreet speaks exactly like him. I don’t think I have modeled myself on him, but I have taken some traits from him.

Q14.) Who is better in the role of a Sardar - you or your Dad?

Ans;- I can never compare myself to my father. He is one the finest actors in this Industry. I am new here. I cannot even compare myself to his 30 illustrious years in the Industry. He is one of my favorites. I would rather not even use my name in the same sentence.

Q15.) What can the audience expect from the film?

Ans;- They should just expect happiness, expect a good film . I don’t want to say that it’s different and mind blowing. Thats something everyone has to wait and watch. All I can say is that we have worked hard on this film. We have put all our hearts in making this film. We do hope and pray that the audience sees it and enjoys it.

Ans;- More than getting the job, orders and targets achieved, it’s the honesty and integrity. And not only in sales, in any profession. You just need to have these qualities and you will succeed in whatever you do.

Q17.) Why the title – Rocket Singh Salesman of the Year?

Ans- For that you will have to watch the film. A lot of people I know, have connected with the title. It’s weird in a way; it gets a smile on your face and keeps you wondering what the film is about. I think we should let that be.

Ans:- Well, it’s a Yash Raj film, written by Jaideep Sahni and Shimit Amin. It is directed by Shimit Amin. It’ s more than any genre.

Q19.) What did you feel on reading the script?

Ans:- I remember it was late at night. I started reading the script, and came out after the first half. I was simply bowled over. They said you can come tomorrow and read the remaining script, but I just didn’t want to leave it! I wanted to know where this character is taken and where the film went. I don’t want to just sell the film, but the way Jaideep and Shimit have written the film, they have done it with lot of conviction. He believed in the character. He believed in the field of sales. The marriage of thought that Shimit has with Jaideep is like Salim-Javed, meet Manmohan Desai meets all the great Directors in the country.

Q20.) Tell us your thoughts on Jaideep Sahni as a writer?

Ans;- Jaideep has this different tone where lines are concerned. He has this balance of lines. There is no dialogue bazzi. They are subtle in a way. It’s because of his understanding of so many languages, religions and occupation which has held in this movie.

Q21.)How has your experience been with YRF – from Bachna… till now?

Ans;- You grow with very movie. I was on a different mindset. I feel I have grown as an actor. Both the films have been a memorable experience. I do hope I get to work with this team in some way or the other in the near future.

Q22.) What do you want to say about the crew?

Ans;-Niharika was clear that she wanted the characters to stand out and costumes to support the character. It wasn’t a jump in thought. She had every character bang on. The cinematographer, Vikash, has shot the film with great detailing. Jaideep and Shimit were clear on how they wanted to shoot the film. They have made it very classy.

Q18.) What genre of film is it?

Q16.) What do you think makes a good salesman?

Q13.) Did you model yourself on someone for the character of a Sardar?

Interview with Ranbir Kapoor and Shamit on Rocket Singh

'I was a 35 per cent with grace marks student'
Ranbir talks about being Rocket Singh

As an actor do you think you need to sell your talent?

Ranbir: Not at all. One thing I will never indulge in is PR. I truly believe that PR is the death of an actor. Look at Raj Kapoor, Dilip Kumar and Dev Anand. They went on and on for 25 years, just on the basis of their work. And fans did not get tired of seeing them because they weren't all over the place. In the end, it's about the films you do. Not about what you do in your personal life, which awards you bag or which NGO you support.

What's with your Sardar look in the film?
Ranbir: Honestly this is not a film on Sardars, so it's not the USP. It's a character you and me can identify with. The look is not an item inthe film . It's about a young boy, fresh out college, who is just starting in the professional world. That time in a person's life when he has to battle with the corporate work force and make his mark.

Actors often complain of the beard and make-up when playing a Sardar
Ranbir: I had no problems, as my mom is a Sikh. So that background helped me in my character. Shimit was very clear that I had to look like a real Sardar as opposed to being Ranbir Kapoor with a fake beard. So we paid extra attention on getting the look right.

What were the reactions from people close to you?
Ranbir: My Mom loved it. My nani (maternal grandmom, who passed away recently) too, was very thrilled seeing on me as a Sardar. It's great because for the first time I had changed my look for any film. And now I have understood how important it is. The right look takes care of 20 per cent of your performance.

The promos have you talking about grace marks and flunking college. Any personal experiences?

Ranbir: Oh absolutely. It was just the same with me. I too was a 35 per cent with grace marks student in some of my papers.

Obviously your first name can't be Rocket in the film. So what's the relevance of the title and the paper plane theme?

Ranbir: My name is Harpreet Singh Bedi in the movie. The 'paper plane rockets' are a marketing tool to create curiosity and excitement. We believe that marketing a movie is about making the audience curious and leading them to the theatres.

But given that you had two back-to-back hits this year, why is the promotion so low key? Are you happy with the limited publicity?

Ranbir: I am very glad it's happening this way. Any other way of promoting the movie wouldn't have been fair. Ours is not a lavish film with exaggerated action and make believe song sequences. So we aren't going to cheat people by artificially over packaging the movie. Such a story needs to be handled with care. No flashy cuts needed here.

Meanwhile we are joined in by director Shimit Amin, who displays a silent air of confidence around his film.

With no offense to Ranbir's huge box-office draw - after making a landmark film with Shah Rukh Khan it would have been an obvious choice to make another SRK film. Why didn't you take forward the Chak De! India association?

Shimit: We would love to work with Shah Rukh Khan all the time. And I am sure he would have done Rocket Singh Salesman of the Year very well. But it wouldn't have a right. This movie demands Ranbir.

The used car salesman is a prototype Hollywood character. Since you have stayed in America, did any of those 'smooth talking' elements influence you?

Shimit: It was basically Jaideep Sahni's concoction about the salesman culture of India. It's completely unique and has a milieu of it its own. I think this is true for the entire Indian middle class, which throws up so many exciting situations to refer upon.

Encounter cop, Hockey coach and now salesman. Do you pick a profession first and then the script?

Shimit: No, nothing of that sort. It's basically about finding the right script that excites you. And believe me it is very hard to find a story that appeals to you to the extent that you go ahead making a film.

This one's for both of you. A salesman is usually an unwanted entity who calls or rings the bell at the most inappropriate hours. Did you'll judge the mindset of a pesky salesman and the way you'll would respond to one?

Shimit: This bit is touched upon in the story. But it's not the only thing in the film.

Ranbir: Obviously we all tend to get a bit irritated when you are in the middle of 100 things and you get a sales call. But after doing this film I have begun to respect the skills of a salesman, a lot more. And next time onwards I think all of us should take a minute and hear the person out with a cool head. He is after all doing his job.

Finally Ranbir, how is the association with Yash Raj Films. You seem to be becoming a new favourite here.

Ranbir: This is family. My mom and dad have done so many films with them. And now I am doing some interesting work here. The banner's biggest strength is its working environment. Despite being such a huge name, they don't behave like or perceive themselves as some hotshot corporate entity. Yash Raj Films has the personal touch.

(Buzz 18)

Perfect promo

With a few days left for the release of Ranbir Kapoor's next movie -- a Yash Raj Films project -- one would have expected its promos to be sweeping the airwaves. On the
contrary, only one song trailer and two promos have been released so far.

We found out that an extra-cautious Aditya Chopra was not willing to dilute the impact of the existing
promos by releasing more trailers. He was still waiting for the 'perfect promo'.

A source said, "Aditya has been on a 'cancel the promos' spree. Gossip has it he cancelled one promo about 40 times and asked Shimit (Amin) and the team to rework it. Adi wanted the promo to have a more gripping impact."

A spokesperson from Yash Raj Films said, "When a creative process takes place concepts go back and forth until a perfect product emerges." The spokesperson, however, denied that Aditya was cancelling the promos.

"The news that Aditya Chopra is on a cancelling spree, which is causing the delay in the new promos coming out, is entirely false," the spokesperson clarifies.

Yash Raj Films to produce 5 shows for Sony Entertainment

Yash Raj Films today said it is venturing into production of serials for the small-screen through its subsidiary, YRF TV.

The serials would be shown exclusively on Sony Entertainment Television (now Multi Screen Media Private Limited) starting January 1, the company said in a statement here.

YRF TV will bring 5 new shows, which include one non-fiction and four fiction on Sony Entertainment Television.

The new shows would be Lift Kara De, Mahi Way, Rishta.Com, Seven and Powder, the company said.

(in.com)

Why YRF slashes Rocket Singh's publicity budget

With Ranbir Kapoor on a lucky streak at the B-O, Rocket Singh Salesman of the Year producer, Yash Raj Films has decided to cut down the budget for the film's publicity and let Ranbir's presence see them through.

On a roll

The decision was taken after Ranbir's last two films -- Wake Up Sid and Ajab Prem Ki Ghazab Kahani were well appreciated.

A source reveals, "YRF had kept aside a sum close to Rs 5 crore for the film's publicity. But when Ajab came out earlier this month and was liked, the think-tanks at the production house decided to tone down the publicity budget to a mere Rs 2 crore and are confident enough that the film will do well purely on its own merits and Ranbir's presence."

A spokesperson for YRF maintains, "The publicity budget for Rocket Singh has not been slashed for any reason whatsoever. Each film has its promotional strategy."

Aamir Khan in YRF's show Rishta.com

Media reports suggest that Aamir Khan is, after all, doing Yash Raj Films' reality show Rishta.com. As the title suggests, the show is about matchmaking.

The other big stars to make an appearance on the show are Shah Rukh Khan, Rani Mukerji, Preity Zinta, Uday Chopra, Ritesh Deshmukh and Tabu.

But reportedly, Yash Raj wants Aamir Khan to make what it calls the grand entry on the show. Surprising, considering until now it was Shah Rukh Khan who was the studio's blue-eyed boy!

NOW Shahid does a double role for YRF

Shahid Kapoor received a lot of appreciation for his double role in Vishal Bhardwaj's Kaminey. And now the star is all set to repeat his twin impact for Yash Raj Films' yet untitled venture.

Kapoor who played the characters of identical twins Guddu and Charlie in Kaminey will be seen playing two separate characters from two different phases of life for YRF's film directed by Parmeet Sethi.

A source from the film unit informed us, "Shahid Kapoor will be donning two different characters for YRF's next untitled venture. The backdrop of the film is very different. While one phase begins in the US the other will be based in Mumbai. Shahid has already got a new look for the film. The change in his character will be visible in his styling and behaviour. Shahid has been paired opposite the Rab Ne... girl Anushka Sharma."

The unit recently shot for a month in Philadelphia and have now returned to Mumbai. After finishing the Mumbai schedule, the team will move to Bangkok for a brief schedule. Shahid and Anushka have already shot for several portions of the film in Mumbai including a pub scene at a popular nightspot in the city.

Rani: I have a very special relationship with Adi

In an interview to Star Week, Rani Mukerji breaks her silence on many taboo subjects. For the first time, the actress talks about her relationship with Adi, the speculation about her marriage and being Yash Raj Film's fav actress. Read on...

On Adi: I have a very special relationship with Adi. He's a person who I absolutely admire and respect. He always had faith in me since the beginning. He was the one who spotted me in Raja Ki Aayegi Baraat and recommended me to Karan for Kuch Kuch Hota Hai. He and Shah Rukh were instrumental in changing Karan's mind about me. Karan didn't think I was hip enough for the role. It's very easy for people to make assumptions, But it doesn't bother me because I am enjoying my work. I'm in a very happy state of mind right now. My film has done well; my family is here; my friends have appreciated my work.

On being an Yash Raj films' fav actress: Coincidentally, all the roles I've done in the recent past have come from the same banner. I would've done those films had anyone else offered them to me too. Of course, I have a comfort factor with Yash Raj. I've done 12 films with them. That comfort factor lies with Dharma Productions (Karan Johar) and Red Chillies (SRK) as well. You often see many actors working with only certain directors. Actors like Hrithik, Shah Rukh, and Akshay have done a lot of films with people they are close to. But they're never questioned over their decisions. A woman is always scrutinised for her it. But it's okay. I'm not minding the movies I am doing with Yash Raj. It doesn't bother me what people say.

On Marriage: When I have to get married, I am going to tell people about it. It's ridiculous to think that I'm the kind of person who'd want to hide her marriage. I don't come from a family like that. Just because I am an actress, I don't have to hide my marriage.

Why DIL BOLE HADIPPA is a safe bet for Yash Raj!

It is by now clear that the Eid battle between WANTED and DIL BOLE HADIPPA is slowly but surely moving in favour of the Boney Kapoor produced WANTED. While DIL BOLE HADIPPA is having an edge in the multiplexes of North India (Delhi-NCR and East Punjab), at an all India level, it is WANTED that is being lapped up, more so at mass oriented centres.

However, it is not over by any means for DIL BOLE HADIPPA, as it's quite a low budget of 14-15 crore will ensure that the Rani-Shahid starrer is sure to be a profitable venture for Yash Raj Films, who are also the worldwide distributors. In the Overseas, the film is not exactly setting the box-office on fire, but is fairing much better than the Salman-Ayesha starrer, WANTED.

In a nutshell, while DIL BOLE HADIPPA will be a safe bet for its makers, by the second weekend, the 34-35 crore WANTED will need to do much more than a couple of weeks run to become a plus fare!

Can Rani regain her tinsel throne?

Rani Mukherjee does not mince her words. The Bollywood star has a bone to pick with the media and she's ready to face the challenge without falling back on the used and abused celebrity crutch no A-lister can do without: a dedicated publicist.

The actress, who wowed critics and audiences at the Toronto International Film Festival earlier this week during the premiere of Dil Bole Hadippa (playing in UAE cinemas), found her film promotional events hijacked by questions about a secret marriage to filmmaker and heir to the Yash Raj Films production empire, Aditya Chopra.

Mukherjee, of course, rubbishes the claims and blames her aversion to public relations firms resulting in this dramatic turn of events.

"I am not the kind of person who enjoys being fussed over by strangers or handing over the reins of my life to one individual who represents me to the world," the 31-year-old tells Emirates Business over a crackling phone line.

However, even the bad connection cannot soften her words or disguise the passion, when she adds: "I'm a self-made woman who has always made my own decisions from the time I entered the film industry 13 years ago. So, now that I'm famous, why should I suddenly stop making these decisions and allow someone else to communicate my words? This person could even have his or her own agenda and twist my words."

Yet, the flip side to Mukherjee's media blackout are the rumours that brandish her as a homewrecker second time around – the first was five years ago over an alleged affair with actor Govinda. The actress, of course, insists she is innocent and states this is the price she must pay for sticking to her conviction.

"The only reason I'm answering queries now is because I feel the need to clarify things to my fans and filmmakers who are now hesitant about approaching me with scripts, lest these rumours have a grain of truth in them," comes her response.

This is a hard line to swallow considering she is the same actress who bagged India's National Award, the country's highest honour, for her stunning portrayal of a deaf and blind woman in 2005's Black.

Ask her, and she admits this is a burden for her to carry. But even before a hint of vulnerability seeps through, the fiery Mukherjee returns to form, saying: "Even so, I still refuse to become a PR-generated star and join the same movement that has allowed this new batch of wannabes into Bollywood who don't even possess the qualifications to justify their presence there."

No matter how miffed Mukherjee may be feeling towards the media, even she cannot deny the power it wields in a film's overall marketing plan.

"Of course. When Ghulam released in 1998, all we had was a handful of print media and three TV channels promoting the film to the masses. These days, its hundreds of print and electronic media personnel vying for our attention, be it from entertainment, music, news or even sports.

"Once the interviews are over, the actors are then herded off to reality shows on TV to generate even more publicity," she says.

"A lot of this movement has to do with the boom of new media and the lack of time, causing the audience to watch limited TV and only sticking to one or two stations that they enjoy. If we want to catch them, we need to be everywhere."

Is this why Mukherjee is so eager to tour the international festival circuit, tapping into a global audience that has suddenly tuned into Bollywood post films such as Slumdog Millionaire?

"If we are talking about Dil Bole Hadippa in Toronto, then I think its appeal to the Indian diaspora in Canada is way larger than the international audience," she states. "Bollywood has gone global and that is now visible with a larger Indian presence at international film festivals, along with a wider distribution network of our films in cinemas abroad. Having said that, my new film is a typical Bollywood potboiler and would not really appeal to those who don't appreciate Indian kitsch."

Dil Bole Hadippa sees Mukherjee play a village belle who's also a cricket fanatic. When she realises women are unable to enrol in the sport on a state level, she disguises herself as a Sikh boy and joins the team, under the captainship of Shahid Kapur. Producer Yash Raj Films is shrewdly marketing this cricketcentric film four days prior to the ICC Championship Trophy that kicks off in South Africa.

"We are not just tapping into the cricket frenzy because it's the news of the hour," comes the pat reply. "Cricket is an integral part of the film."

The actress admits she was clueless about the sport before the film and had to train for six months before she was able to effectively hold the bat and score runs.

"This is such a bright and funny film, that cricket fan or not, you will still enjoy it for its entertainment value," she says, adding: "I know I did; after my spate of weepy dramas over the past few years, this is a welcome relief."

Brand Power

With a career spanning 13 years with India's top production houses, Rani Mukherjee should be ranked as highly as Bollywood greats Aishwarya Rai Bachchan and Kareena Kapoor in terms of brand power.

However, while Bachchan demands up to Rs50 million (Dh3.8m) for a single endorsement deal and Kapoor has all the A-list brands in her kitty (including Pepsi, Airtel communications and Head and Shoulders shampoo), the Mukherjee name refuses to create a flutter among India's corporates. This appears surprising considering the actress has appeared in India's Filmfare magazine's Top 10 Power List from 2005, for three years consecutively.

By 2007, Mukherjee was the highest female brand ambassador in Bollywood, paying Rs13m in taxes from endorsements alone. At the time she had Nestlé's Munch chocolates, Fanta cola, Titan Raga watches, Good Knight mosquito repellent, Chevrolet Aveo and Dabur Amla hair oil to lend her name to. Today, she's down to three.

Mukherjee calls her lack of endorsements a personal choice, saying: "I currently endorse three brands and this is because I have no time to take on more work.

"I get offers every other day, but as a celebrity it is important my public profile is not tarnished. Because of this, I choose brands that have credibility in the market."

Currently, it seems only Dabur, Titan and Good Knight have retained that credibility.

Critics are linking this power outage to her advancing age, which allegedly resulted in the actress losing out her Fanta deal to the much younger Genelia D'Souza earlier this year.

However, industry analysts predict Mukherjee has the power to turnaround her affairs depending on the box office outcome of her current Dil Bole Hadippa. Only time will tell.

Sherlyn, Rakhi are for adults!

Dil Bole Haddipa gets U/A certificate for Rakhi Sawant and Sherlyn Chopra’s skimpy outfits....

Yash Raj Films, known for its clean romantic entertainers and their candy floss films, was extremely upbeat about Dil Bole Haddipa’s release. However, the film has got a U/A certificate and not the U certificate which they would have liked, as that would have enabled them to reach out to family audiences. The U/A has been given because they have two sexy sirens, Sherlyn Chopra and Rakhi Sawant, doing what they do best — flaunting some serious skin.

Vinayak Azad, Regional Officer Censor Board said, “The film has been given a U/A certificate due to Sherlyn's onscreen clothes and Rakhi Sawant's dance number.”

When asked if there are any intimate scenes, he said, “There are no high-voltage intimate scenes and no kissing scenes as such. But it features one intimate scene with Sherlyn and the other problem is Rakhi’s clothes in the dance number.”

Incidentally, both Rakhi and Sherlyn have painted the town red speaking about their roles in the YRF banner film, which stars Shahid Kapoor and Rani Mukerji in lead roles.

Sherlyn says, "Well, Manish Malhotra is to be blamed for that... He's dressed me in bikini tops and shorts which ooze effortless sensuality. And that's exactly what's expected of the super model that I play in the film.”

Rani denies being secretly married to Aditya Chopra

Bollywood actress Rani Mukherji says that rumours about her getting married have started affecting her career.

"These rumours have been going on for three years and they have started now affecting my career. Lot of filmmakers who approach me for roles start by asking whether I am getting married. They have apprehensions whether I can commit myself to their project," Rani said.

The numero uno actress termed as "most laughable" the rumour which said that she had left her posh Juhu bungalow because it had brought her ill luck and had moved back to her old flat at Andheri.

"I have made the new house for my family from my hard work, sweat and blood. My house is my temple and how can I run away from it. I am being made to look like an insecure person which I am not," she said.

The actress said the baseless stories about her are getting stretched too much.

"I cant get married to one man for the last three years or to different men," she said about her alleged link ups including the rumour about her marriage to filmmaker Aditya Chopra.

"I am the only daughter of my parents. When I get married, it will be announced publicly and will take place with pomp," Rani said referring to the story that she has secretly married to Chopra.

The actress said instead of wasting time of clarifying bizarre rumours, she would rather concentrate on her films, work hard and make her fans happy.

Rani admitted that she was the odd person out where PR forms a major part of her profession.

"It is shortcoming that I have as I don't like to talk about my daily life. The media has taken advantage of my silence and communicated to my fans very wrongly," she said.

Rani said three years ago when the rumours about her marriage started, her father had to come on television to clarify.

"No father should be put through such misery. Despite clarifications, the rumours have continued. You have to believe what I am saying. But, if you still continue spreading stories about me, I cant stop you," Rani said.

She said she has never felt the need to have a PR or a secretary to interact with the media on a daily basis. "I believe my work will speak for me," she said.

Rani said 'Dil Bole Haddipa' came to her at the right time when she got a feedback that she was crying too much on screen doing serious roles. She said her last release 'Thoda Pyar Thoda Magic' unfortunately did not do well.

Rani said applying glue on her face to stick the beard was the most tedious task. "Men in unit when I became a guy forgot that I am Rani when I was in the getup of Veer, the cricket loving Sikh boy," she recalled.

Rani said she had not taken a break from movies. "I started working on 'Haddipa' immediately after my last release.

"I can do two three films at a time if there are great roles. I don't want to prove anything to my detractors that I work only in Yash Raj films. If Yash Raj offers me challenging roles, I will take up those projects," she said.

The actress said she has not worn a bikini in 'Dil Bole Haddipa'. "Bikini is a very strong word. I have just worn a bikini top with salwar. When you lose weight and tone your body, people are wanting to dress you up in a different way and there is no harm in trying it, "she said.

She said the ultra glam look was for the music video of the film. "In the film, I could not take liberties because the glam look would not go well with the character I play. But in the music videos, I could be portrayed differently," she said.

When asked about criticism that she had lost her numero uno status, Rani said number games do not affect actors. "The number games are for those who believe in it. The roles that I get make me the actor I am. Getting challenging roles is the best part of being in any stage of your career. I am trying to reinvent myself as an actor and as a looker," she said.

When asked about her future projects, Rani said she cannot work in any random film. "I am waiting for a great offer. I want to work with Vishal Bharadwaj, Imitiaz Ali, Anurag Basu. But, they have to come up with something which I would like to do," she added.

Rani Mukherjee's close connection with Harbhajan

Everybody knows that Rani Mukherjee plays a Sardar in her upcoming release Dil Bole Hadippa but very few will know her special connection with a real Sardar in Indian Cricketer Harbhajan Singh. No, they are not having affair. It's just that Rani copied Harbhajan in the film .
Well, Rani Mukherjee sent the photo of Harbhajan to her make-up man who is from London . She sent his photo, as he didn't know how exactly a Sardar looks. Consequently, Rani's look in Dil Bole Hadippa was greatly influenced by the photo she sent.

And Rani revealed that she had told Harbhajan about the story of his photo. The ace Indian cricketer is fine about it all for the simple reason that it's Rani who has copied him.

Rani acts with Shahid Kapoor in her upcoming release Dil Bole Hadippa, produced by Aditya Chopra [^] under the banner of Yash Raj Films and directed by Anurag Singh. It is all set for release this Friday, 18th September.

Dil Bole Hadippa turns a new logo

Yashraj Films have come up with a new logo for their biggest release of this year. Film Dil Bole Hadippa has got a new identity with a brand new logo.

The ace production company was recently in news, all for the wrong reason. They had to face strong disapproval by the Sikh community. The community had expressed their displeasure over the use of a patka sign in the place of a dot on letter ‘I’ in ‘Hadippa’.

In the film Rani aspires to play cricket with Dhoni and Tendulkar in the team. So as to become a part of men’s cricket team she dons turban and beard and poses as Sardar. A film that celebrates the never-say-die spirit of India cannot afford to hurt any of its pillars, and thus Yashraj decided to change the logo and neutralize any controversy.

Yash Raj Films releases Black in Korea across 180 screens

In its endeavor to open new markets for Indian cinema, Yash Raj Films has released Sanjay Leela Bhansali's film Black starring Amitabh Bachchan and Rani Mukerji in Korea.

The movie, which was released in 2005, was distributed overseas by Yash Raj Films.

Black, the story of Michelle McNally who saw what other lesser mortals could not, was released in Korea last Friday across 180 screens. This has been one of the biggest releases for a non-Korean or Hollywood film. According to YRF, Black had the highest opening among new releases ahead of Hollywood releases. The movie debuted at third spot while Take-Off and Haeundae took the first two spots given they are Korean blockbusters with massive budget and marketing.

Rani is leaving YRF ?

Rani is leaving Aditya Chopra

Rani Mukherjee and Yash Raj Films was a hit combination once upon a time. But with the recent failures like Tara Rum Pum, Laga Chunri Mein Daag, Thoda Pyaar Thoda Magic, Rani is no longer treated as the lead actress of Yash Raj camp. She was attached to Yash Raj banner for the challenging role that was offered to her, for delivering successive hits and more or less for Yash Raj head hancho Aditya Chopra with whom Rani is rumored to be romantically linked up. Now Rani has decided to bid goodbye to the camp.

A close source informs, “Rani is ready to do films for other banners too. In fact, she is said to be reading scripts by other banners.” The only reason behind her move is poor script. Rani believes that Yash Raj banners scripts are not challenging and interesting like before but at the same time she assures that she will return back if she finds any role challenging.

Moreover, Rani is trying her level best to revive her lost status with ‘Dil Bole Hadippa’ which is a Yash Raj film opposite Shahid Kapur. She has toned her body and lost weight to suit the role.

Shazahn Padamsee debuts in Rocket Singh - Salesman of the Year

Shazahn Padamsee will be rocketing to success opposite Ranbir Kapoor in Rocket Singh – Salesman of the Year, brought to you by the team behind Chak De India. Shazahn is making her debut in the film, playing Ranbir’s love interest, and is the daughter of theatre impresario Alyque Padamsee and singer Sharon Prabhakar.

It's not been as easy as some people might think, however, as competition for places in the industry is overwhelming. "I have met people who think that I have had it easy," she says, "It frustrates me when people think like that because frankly I have worked my way to reach where I am. I have gone through my share of struggle. I have gone for a lot of auditions and have just been treated like everybody else. I got rejected a lot of times and at times, things didn't work out for whatever reasons."

Shazahn has been busy learning Hindi and honing her skills for her debut in the movie. "I have two teachers each for my Hindi classes and my dance classes," she explains, "I have acted and produced in a play, Unspoken Dialogues. I have also done a couple of commercials, the latest one being a jewellery brand."

Shazahn loves children and likes to spend time with them at the exclusive Breach Candy Club. "They put a permanent smile on her face," says a friend, "Shazahn feels that little children are the most honest and innocent. One day, one of the kids even recognized Shazahn saying that he had seen her in Ponds and 7 up ads. Shazahn just brushed off his praises. The kid then challenged her to a race in swimming which she had to let him win."

Aditya Chopra wants to direct DHOOM 3

Now, this might sound a bit interesting. If the latest reports emerging out of the Yash Raj camp are to be believed, it seems Aditya Chopra is all set to make the much talked about film DHOOM 3 if his dream cast is by his side.

Buzz is that Aditya Chopra wants to direct DHOOM 3 if SRK and Hrithik are part of the film. Though, many believe that SRK can never say NO to him, but Hrithik seems to be a tough nut to crack given his other commitments.

Well, if everything else goes according to the plan, the audiences can expect yet another spectacle from the Yash Raj camp.

Sallu's gal Kat with ex-dost SRK!

There’s a treat for everyone’s eyes. The dream jodi of Yash Raj Films’ blue-eyed boy and the nation’s favorite Barbie girl will finally be seen together in a YRF film.

Just as we got to know about Shah Rukh Khan and Katrina Kaif parading together at the Independence Day Carnival in Chicago and Houston next week, we learn that YRF has caught the two stars for their film which will be made early next year.

The film will be directed by either Aditya Chopra or Kabir Khan.

The project has been in the pipeline for a long time and rumours have been doing rounds for a while now too, but this time, it’s for real, the deal has been inked. However, Salman Khan’s shadow looms large over the pair. While the two Khans warred openly at Katrina’s birthday party, most thought that they would never get to see SRK and Katrina in the same frame ever.

But YRF seems to have done it.

Our source reveals, “Katrina definitely has it going for her. SRK, on the other hand, has remained in the safe zone — as far as heroines are concerned — for a long time. Be it Rani Mukerji or Preity Zinta, he has stuck to his regulars and has worked with them repeatedly. He needs to be a tad more adventurous about his co-stars, and that’s where Katrina comes into the picture.”

Katrina, on her side, has taken the pains to make it clear that she will never allow personal issues to chart her career. Whatever the status of Salman’s relationships with others, she will not allow that to come in the way of decision-making.

Imagine Rani Mukherji in a bikini???

Guys at Yash Raj Films not only can but have shot petite Rani Mukherji during a movie. Apparently, this talented actress donned a bikini for a promotional remix song for 'Dil Bole Hadippa!' However, as characteristic of all YRF productions, it's a hush-hush news which, unfortunately for them, just got spilled.

According to our source, though the promos of the film show her both as a Punjabi girl and a boy, the actress also has been given a rather chic avatar in the film where she will be seen sporting bikini tops. The source added that recently a song was shot with Shahid Kapur and her where she was clad in a bikini. She had no inhibitions whatsoever for the song.

The source continues that Rani had lost oodles of weight for her role under the aegis of Aamir Khan's trainer Satya Chaurasia. The actress is quite happy with the results and so didn't think twice to flaunt it. In any case, she will be back on screen after a long break and so the actress wants to make the most of it even if it calls for shedding inhibitions.

Anushka restless with YRF?

If reports are to be believed, Anushka Sharma is quite keen on moving beyond Yash Raj Films. The production house that launched her in Rab Ne Bana Di Jodi has also reportedly signed an exclusive three-film contract and prohibits her from signing a film with any other banners, Mid Day reports.

The paper quotes sources saying that the young star is now 'getting restless and wants the contract to end soon so she can take on more work' and expressed her desire with Parmeet 'to wrap up the schedule for this movie as soon as possible.'

An insider told the paper "Parmeet plans to finish the film without any break. It also works for Anushka, who plans to get straight into her third and final film with the banner, as soon as this one wraps."

Anushka Sharma's spokesperson though offered a different take. "Anushka is happy with her Yash Rraj contract. She is free to do films outside the banner. She dislikes talking about projects that are in the pipeline and will talk about them when they hit the floor," the spokesperson was quoted as saying.

Vidya Balan with Aamir in Yash Raj film?

There is a strong buzz in the industry circles that Vidya Balan has been signed by Yash Chopra for his directorial next. It is the same project which was supposed to star Aamir Khan along with Preity Zinta. But while, Aamir is still being non-committal about being approached for the project, other news making the rounds is that Preity has been replaced by Vidya Balan.

Sources are claiming that it is a love story spanning ages, but is completely different from Chopra’s last directorial effort Veer Zara. Incidentally, Veer Zara also had its lead pair Shahrukh Khan and Preity Zinta playing characters both young and old. Sources further claim that Yash Chopra intends to begin this film by early 2010 and make it a grand Diwali 2010 release. He will be finally directing a film after 6 years since he directed Veer Zara (2004).

While there has been no confirmation from both Vidya Balan or Yash Raj Films yet, we can only imagine right now what crackling chemistry it would be of Aamir and Vidya, and to top it all with romance king Yash Chopra directing it.

Rani getting superstitious?

One has often heard of Govinda’s obsession for puja’s and superstitions but now we hear that Rani Mukherjee has gone the same way. She is constantly hanging on to superstitions and rituals to keep her anxieties at bay if our sources’ claims are to be believed.

Rani Mukherjee had been going through bad times. Rani’s father was also not keeping well. However, things are looking upbeats since her next, the Yash Raj Films’ production Dil Bole Hadippa opposite Shahid Kapur is all set for a release soon now. The actress who was at the peak of her career a few years ago with releases like Sanjay Leela Bhansali’s Black, Yash Raj’s Veer Zaara and Karan Johar’s Kabhi Alvida Na Kehna, suddenly seems to have come up against a wall. Her talent is not really in question, but her luck and choice of films is.

After Black, instead of going for a variety of roles, which would showcase her talent, the actress chose instead to stick to banners like Yash Raj alone. With films like- Laaga Chunri Mein Daag and Thoda Pyaar Thoda Magic. Bhansali’s Saawariya did nothing to improve matters. The actress has sought divine help to overcome all the obstacles. She is believed to have undertaken a fast on every Thursday for 40 weeks, followed by a pooja at the Sai Baba temple in Shirdi. The actress has already been at it for the last three months. We just hope for her sake that it all works out fine for her. But things just may change and maybe Rani will again become the queen of hearts and the box office.

The curious case of Shahid Kapoor- Ages from 28 to 22!

Don’t get confused as we are talking of Shahid’s upcoming flick with Yash Raj Films, where he is supposed to look much younger than his age. For this, the handsome lad has worked equally hard and has gained the perfect look that was demanded of him.
In Kaminey he has build a well-toned body and dons a macho man look. On the other hand, in his next flick with Yash Raj and Anushka Sharma, the actor has slimmed down and is looking very young.
“I work according to my scripts and the character that I am portraying. In Kaminey I needed a good physique for which I have worked for almost a year and sacrifice on my liking of food. Where as, in my next film with Anushka, I need to look much younger so I have done sacrifices over there too,” rues the young lad.
Elaborating on adapting himself according to the script, the actor chirps, “You can find good directors, producers and actors but not a good script. And if my script demands me to change, then I would do so gladly.”
“For this new look I had to cut down on my muscular body and get a thin shape, which I have attained. I also liked my look for this film and am ready to take all kinds of challenge. Even if my next venture demands me to go out of the way for physical or mental challenge I would go ahead with it,” he concludes.
Well definitely we can say for Shahid ki success ke liye kuch bhi karega.

Rani Mukherjee trying to coax with Salman Khan in YRF

Rani Mukerji has a lot of time due to no film in hand, to sit down and chart out plans for the Chopra camp of which she is an integral part. Sources bilived she is trying her best to coax Salman Khan to work with Yash Raj Films as Aditya Chopra wants him in a YR film.

Salman is one hero who despite having been in the industry for more than 20 years has never once worked with them. Earlier too, during the making of Chak De! India’, Aditya Chopra had first approached Salman for the lead role but since the actor took too long to give the final nod, he went ahead and signed Shah Rukh Khan instead.

But this time with good pal Rani trying to get him in, Salman might probably give it a second thought. And if Sallu says yes, we will get to see the hunk flexing his muscles in Yash Raj’s next venture to be directed by Vijay Krishna Acharya who directed the film Tashan.

Yash Raj Films denies signing Salman Khan

Bollywood’s prestigious banner Yash Raj Films has denied reports that it has signed Salman Khan for a movie, saying they are “completely baseless”.
It was reported that writer-turned-director Vijay Krishna Acharya, whose directorial debut “Tashan” was produced by the banner, is directing his second film for Yash Raj Films and that Salman would star in it.

“We would like to clarify that this is a completely baseless and incorrect story. Vijay is still in the process of writing his next script for Yash Raj Films. No casting has therefore been done nor has anyone been considered for the same,” stated the banner.

“As and when we do finalise the script and the casting is complete, a suitable announcement will be made,” it added.

Salman, who has worked with almost all the filmmakers in the industry, is yet to be seen in a Yash Raj Films production.

Kabir Khan ready with his next script after New York with similar subject

New York is still running at a theatre near you but director Kabir Khan is already thinking about his next big project.

Talking about his next project Kabir says, "I have two script ideas ready with me. Both the ideas are completely different from each other."

Same feel

When asked if the projects will revolve around the subject of terror, like his precious films Kabul Express and New York, Khan says, "Well, yes, one of the stories has the same feel as my previous films. I think it will be difficult for me to stray away and attempt something totally different. My films will always have a backdrop against which the characters will be set."

When asked if he will ever attempt a romantic comedy? "Well the other script just might be a rom-com. As I said both the scripts have solid setting and background which I think has become a trademark of my films." Will we see John Abraham in his third film as well?

He says,"Why not? If the script demands a character like John then I definitely will work with him. But just because I have worked with him in my previous film doesn't mean that I will repeat him again. Yash Raj gives me such a wonderful choice of actors to work with. So I don't really have issues with casting. Once Adi and I lock the script I will decide my cast."

The director is leaving for Malaysia on a five-day short vacation to join wife Mini Mathur who is stationed there for a TV show, "Once I get back, I will meet Adi and finalise which of the two scripts I can begin." This will be the director's first break after the release of New York.

YRF is all set to enter the small screen

Known for their trademark romantic films, Yash Raj Films is all set to enter the small screen with a comedy show titled Rishta.com.

Although YRF is trying its best to keep the project a secret, Mumbai Mirror ferreted out that Shah Rukh Khan, Preity Zinta, Ritesh Deshmukh, Tabu, Rani Mukerji, Uday Chopra, Jugal Hansraj and others will have cameo roles in the show. It will also feature several new faces.

A source said, “YRF is leaving no stone unturned to make a grand entry in television. They have spoken to most of the top actors, who have worked with them. While most of the actors have already agreed to make an appearance in Rishta.com, some are still being approached. The show is about a matrimony office through which couples meet.”

There have been several rumours about the show that YRF is making for a popular entertainment channel. However, contrary to reports, these prominent film stars will only be making special appearances,” said the source.

The rehearsals, costumes and the look of the show have already been finalised. The show will be directed by Rishabh Seth and will go on air in October.

YRF spokesperson said, “YRF is working on various television concepts, which are right now at different stages of development and are untitled. We will make an announcement when everything is in place.”

Yash Raj breaks promise to Bhansali

Sanjay Leela Bhansali is fuming on seeing the first look of YRF’s Dil Bole Hadippa!.

Despite being assured by YRF that they won’t use Hadippa in their title, they haven’t lived up to their promise given to Bhansali.

A spokesperson from SLB Productions said, “Hadippa is the title of Bhansali’s sister Bela Sehgal’s first directorial venture. Bhansali turned down Aditya Chopra’s request to let him use the title. If it was his own he’d have considered Aditya’s request but as this is his sister’s first film, Bhansali won’t allow her title to be taken away even if it means taking legal action.”

“How could they add two words to Hadippa and claim the title to be their own? Would they have liked it if someone made Ek Baar Rab Ne Phir Bana Di Jodi or Pataa Nahin Kyun Laaga Chunari Mein Daag?”

Lead actress of Dil Bole Hadippa!, Rani Mukerji, who is close to both the production houses, tried but failed to arrange a meeting between the two filmmakers to solve matters.

“What’s there to discuss? What YRF has done is unethical. We at SLB Productions see it as creative vandalism. We’ve written proof that YRF had assured us they won’t use the word Hadippa. If the need arises, we’ll use that evidence against them,” the spokesperson added.

Commenting on the issue, an annoyed Bhansali said, “If they were so sold on a Punjabi title, since their film is about cricket, they could’ve called it Balle Balle.”

When Neil Nitin Mukesh was detained at New York airport

The actor’s fair complexion made it difficult for the immigration officials to believe that he was an Indian. This happened when Neil Nitin Mukesh flew to the US to shoot the Yashraj film New York .

The film, directed by Kabir Khan and co-starring Katrina Kaif , John Abraham and Irrfan Khan , is about the discrimination people of certain community and religion face in the US after the 9/11 attacks.

Ironically, Neil, who plays a Muslim in the film, saw life imitating art when he was detained at the airport because he looked too fair to be an Indian and that made the officials suspicious.

“I can pass off as a Britisher, American, Kashmiri easily because my skin tone and complexion can blend anywhere. But this incident changed my attitude of how I will approach my role in New York which also dwells upon discrimination,” Neil told a news agency.

To convince the immigration officials of his identity, Neil even told them he was an actor from India and they could confirm it by googling his name.

“I told him to google search my name. When he realised his folly, he was still not willing to let me go and started asking questions about my profession like what kind of films I do and why am I in New York,” the actor is quoted as saying.

In a way, Neil’s detention gave him an insight about his role in the film. The young actor said that while leaving the immigration office, he thanked the official because he had found the crux of what ‘New York’ is all about.

The film releases this Friday.

Preview : 'New York is about prejudices after 9/11 attacks'

Yashraj Films’ upcoming release New York highlights the prejudices against certain nations and communities after the 9/11 attacks in the US, says the film’s director Kabir Khan .

It’s often described as the day that changed the world. Four hijacked planes went down and three of them crashed into the symbols of all that America stands for. But it’s a day that also stemmed prejudices against people of certain religion. This is what director Kabir Khan tackles in ‘New York’, which is set for release on June 26.

"'New York' is based on part of the political canvas of 9/11, but it speaks of prejudices after the great human tragedy. It is a definite and very relevant subject about post-9/11 prejudices that have increased after the attacks," Khan is quoted as saying by IANS in an interview.

Starring John Abraham , Katrina Kaif and Neil Nitin Mukesh , the film, set in New York, tells the story of three friends and how their lives change forever after the September 11 attacks.

“We have in fact divided time in a pre- and post-9/11 world in the film to highlight its obvious repercussions in times to come. The repercussions of the attacks are still very strongly felt globally and will continue to do so,” Khan is quoted to have said.

Adding that shooting the film in Philadelphia wasn’t as difficult as expected, Khan said the last day of the film’s shooting coincided with the final day of George W Bush at the White House.

“They (New York Film Commission) were fully supportive, as it is not an anti-something film. It is a very balanced story and not a jingoistic film. Even the American crew enjoyed it. In fact, the last day of our shoot was the last day of George W. Bush's presidency in the US...the very next day Barack Obama took charge,” said Khan who earlier directed Kabul Express , a film dealing with terrorism in Afghanistan.
