Yash Chopra plans to direct next year

Veteran Bollywood filmmaker Yash Chopra is planning to wield the megaphone again in 2011 after a gap of six years.

His last directorial venture was Indo-Pak love story Veer-Zaara in 2004, starring Shah Rukh Khan and Preity Zinta.

The 78-year-old director is synonymous with romance in the Indian film industry with his films like Waqt, Kabhi Kabhie, Silsila, Chandni, Lamhe and Dil To Pagal Hai.

"I will be directing a film next year and like my other films, it will be shot in Switzerland," Chopra said without divulging details.

Chopra was in the city to receive 'Swiss Ambassador's Award 2010' for his contribution in promoting Switzerland through his cinema. He was accompanied by his wife and Bollywood actress Deepika Padukone.

While Deepika has worked in his home production-Yash Raj films, Chopra said he would love to cast her in his next movie.

He is called the 'King of Romance' in Bollywood but Chopra finds Imtiaz Ali most romantic director in the present lot of filmmakers.

"Every director makes a romantic film in his own style. I have my own style. In young breed of directors, I like Imtiaz Ali. Jab we met was a wonderfully romantic movie."

When asked about his fixation with Switzerland, the filmmaker said, "I honeymooned in Switzerland and then I roamed the whole country by car and that's when I fell in love with its beauty.

"There is no bureaucracy, no permission involved. I can shoot my films right after alighting from the plane! There is zero crime. So it is wonderful going there every time."

I am not trying to sell any image: Anushka Sharma

She made heads turn with her chirpy girl-next door image in 'Rab Ne Bana Di Jodi' and later set the screen on fire with her glam avatar in 'Badmaash Company' but Anushka Sharma is totally unperturbed by her transformation from a demure to oomph image.

"I do a film when I like a character or a script. As an actor I would not confine myself to limited roles and become a monopolist. I am not trying to sell any image", said Anushka.

"I want to do roles which I and other girls can relate to," said Anuoshka, who was in Delhi with her co-star Ranveer and film director Maneesh Sharma to promote the upcoming Yash Raj film 'Band Baaja Baarat'.

The model-turned actress tunneled into Bollywood through Yash Raj films and since then destiny has been favouring her.

With all her three films being produced and directed under the banner, ask the pretty damsel where she stands minus Yash Raj and she quips in, "Well I am a very honest actor. I do roles because they excite me. I don't make a biased judgement based on a banner. Before signing 'Baand Baaja Baarat', I ventured to act in the film 'Patiala House'outside Yash Raj banner."

Ali Zafar hugged by Katrina Kaif as a gesture of Thanks

What more could Pakistani popstar and ‘Tere Bin Laden’ star Ali Zafar ask for as a reward for bravery than being hugged by Bollywood’s most sought after actress Katrina Kaif.

And it was not something more than what he deserved too, for he saved Katrina from an accident on the sets of Yash Raj Films’ ‘Mere Brother Ki Dulhan’ suffering minor injury too. Katrina her hair got stuck in a pedestal fan on the sets of the film being currently shot at Nabha. The incident scared Kaif and also injured a spot boy badly.

It may be recalled here that long back when Sunil Dutt had saved Nargis from a fire mishap during ‘Mother India’, the bravery had led to their tying knots with each other, but Zafar may not be as lucky tough since he is already a husband and a father too.

However, it cleared the cold vibes between the two stars which had sparked when Zafar failed to recognize Katrina when she approached him at a party.

Katrina, Imran bond well

The Yash Raj film directed by Ali Abbas Zafar that Katrina Kaif is shooting in Pataudi these days is her third film in four months. "I've almost completed Farah and Zoya's films ("Tees Maar Khan" and "Zindagi Na Milegi Dobara") and this Yash Raj film is also going to be ready in no time. All of them are great fun to shoot, mainly because my co-stars are so easy to work with."

Kat says she's happy just being a working girl right now. "Can't a girl be happy just working hard and enjoying it? Why must a girl be in a relationship to be happy?" About shooting with Salman Khan for a song in "Tees Maar Khan", Katrina asks, "What was the fuss all about? It was like shooting with any co-star one is comfortable with. For those who expected fireworks... Sorry guys, please wait until Diwali."

If there's one Bollywood diva who qualifies as Calamity Jane, it's Katrina. The accident-prone actress had another accident on Tuesday in Pataudi near Delhi, where she is shooting with Imran Khan. During an action sequence bustling with lots of gadgets, cars and guns, not to mention flailing limbs, Imran's hand landed straight in Katrina's face, hitting her nose really hard.

It wouldn't have been so painful if there wasn't a steel gun in Imran's hand, which hit her nose with a whack. Katrina says she could've sworn she heard something crack in the middle of her face. Wincing in pain, on Wednesday afternoon, she said, "Please don't make it seem as if Imran was careless or something. These things happen. We were shooting one of the really madcap scenes where the actors' limbs acquire a life of their own. Imran's hand landed on my face."

The pain in her nose was greater than it would've been otherwise simply because she got hit exactly on the same spot on her nose by Ranbir Kapoor during the shooting of "Ajab Prem Ki Ghazab Kahani". "Yeah, I got whacked twice in the same spot. I think I need to get my nose fixed," says Katrina. Imran was full of apologies after the incident. Says Katrina, "He's really fun to gel with. Luckily, he's engaged, so we can chat and enjoy one another's company without people's imagination going on a rampage!"

SRK back in Yash’s Raaj

In a bid to change the tide, Yash Raj Films has signed on the superstar for its next, which will either be directed by head honcho Yash Chopra or his son Aditya.

Given their recent records, Yash Raj Films (YRF) is now trying to salvage its reputation of being one of the most successful and prestigious production houses in Bollywood. A lot of their recent projects bombed at the box office but they haven’t let that dampen their spirits.

After offering Dhoom 3 to Aamir Khan (he will start reading the script around October 15), YRF has now got another box-office winner, Shah Rukh Khan to work on one of its forthcoming films.

The last YRF film with King Khan, which Yash Chopra directed himself, was Veer Zaara (2004), a box office success. The production house is counting a lot on the success of its forthcoming project with the actor. This film will either be directed by YRF head honcho Yash Chopra or his son Aditya.

A source says, “YRF is yet to decide who will direct the Shah Rukh starrer. SRK has very good relations with both, Yashji and Aditya. He has equal faith in both of them. They are like family to him.”

And interestingly, it may seem as though SRK has proved lucky for the production house, as most of the films the actor has done with them have been successful at the box office, with the exception of Rab Ne Bana Di Jodi (2008).

While the lead actor has been finalised, the position of the heroine opposite Shah Rukh still remains open.

Apparently, the SRK starrer for YRF will go on floors in 2011. So, next year, Shah Rukh, who will start shooting for Farhan Akhtar’s Don 2, will thus be shooting for at least two films. This will obviously be quite a change from his usual habit of shooting for only one film a year.

When contacted, the YRF spokesperson said, “We are still working on our slate for the coming year and will make our announcements at the appropriate time on the finalisation of our projects.”

History repeats itself with Band Baaja Baarat

Anushka Sharma, who made her debut opposite Shah Rukh Khan in Rab Ne Bana Di Jodi, would be seen on the big screen yet again in Band Baaja Baaraat. This fun flick coming from the house of 'Yash Raj Films' releases all over on December 10.

However, call it sheer coincidence or a part of the plan but the fact remains that history would be repeating itself for the pretty girl. This is because Rab Ne Bana Di Jodi too had come around the same time when it released on December 12, 2008.

Says a trade observer, "This should be one lucky coincidence for the makers and Anushka here. After all Anushka has been enjoying a good innings so far in Bollywood. Her first film was a blockbuster while Badmaash Company, which was again a YRF production and had released earlier this year, was also an average success. She would well be looking at making a hat trick with Band Baaja Baaraat."
