Leaving behind his father's successful business of restaurant chains, 23 year old actor Saqib Saleem, who makes his debut in Yash Raj Films' upcoming movie 'Mujhse Fraaandship Karoge', came to the city of dreams Mumbai.
Saqib hails from Delhi, where his father runs a successful restaurant business called 'Saleem's' with around 10 outlets. He assisted his father for almost six months and he got tired of it.
"During my college days, I used to help my father in his business. Also, I was modeling at the same time. I helped my dad for about six months but I was not enjoying it. I told him I want to go to Mumbai and do modelling, initially he was reluctant. He said if I do not get a job then I will have to come back and do MBA," Saqib told PTI in an interview.
When he landed in Mumbai, he did a few modelling assignments and few advertisements like 'Pepsi' ad with actor Ranbir Kapoor, 'Tata Docomo', 'KFC', 'Sprite', 'Bar One' and others.
"When I started shooting for ads, I liked being in front of camera and that built my interest for acting. I used to meet a lot of people, give auditions. But nothing fruitful happened. One of my friends got to know that Yash Raj Films
was looking for new faces. I gave auditions. It took 8-9 months, I was getting impatient, luckily I got confirmation," Saqib said.
'Mujhse Fraaandship Karoge', is a romantic comedy set against the backdrop of social networking site, directed by debutante Nupur Asthana.
"I liked the script and I did it. I feel, the youth will relate and connect with it. I think, the movie will put me in a different light and open lot of doors for me," he said.
The film, which comes from Y-Film's, the youth division of YRF, has four debut actors, Saqib Saleem, Nishant Dahiya, Saba Azad and Tara D'Souza. It will release on October 14.
The young actor has all praises for Yash Raj Films producer Aditya Chopra.
"I thank God, Aditya Chopra and YRF. When I was told I will have to meet him (Aditya), I was like I will have to behave well and be well dressed, polite and all. He is very nice and warm person...he helped us all. He gave us inputs", Saqib said.

Tara’s dad flat on her acting skills
There’s a big reason behind this wide grin of the actress who recently watched her debut movie in a multiplex. The actress was accompanied by her father who was all praise for her and just couldn’t stop admiring the acting skills of his daughter.
Commenting on this, actress Tara informed the media, "I went to a multiplex to watch the film with friends and my dad. My dad was particularly proud of me as I sink a little into my chair after I saw myself on the massive screen. While I was conscious of reactions of the people watching the film, my dad was going around telling movie-goers 'That's my daughter in the film' with great pride. It was a great experience!"
Tara busy with her second film
Nowadays, the actress, who is popular among her fans for her doe-eyes, is busy with the events related to the promotion of her second film, “Mujhse Fraaandship Karoge." This movie will be the second production of Y-film production house. As a matter of fact, Y-film house is a subsidiary of Yash Raj Films.
Other actors who are a part of the film include Saqib Saleem, Saba Azad and Nishant Dahiya. This film will hit the screens on October 14, as per the information provided by the actress. She said, "The film is very different from other Bollywood films. It’s a short ride filled with excitement and fun, and it has good music!"

Yash Raj Films' youth films studio Y-Films launched the music of its forthcoming release MUJHSE FRAAANDSHIP KAROGE (MFK) in Mumbai on Wednesday with a live performance by Raghu Dixit-one of India's foremost desi rockstars who makes his Bollywood debut as music composer.
The gig that is being live streamed on the web also showcased the 4 new leads of the film Saqib Saleem, Saba Azad, Nishant Dahiya & Tara D'Souza.
Speaking on the launch, Nupur Asthana, the director of MUJHSE FRAAANDSHIP KAROGE, said, "Music & the internet are 2 things our audience can't live without."
"Our film reflects that, so clearly our music launch had to do the same. Raghu's rocked not just the songs, but also the background score of the film. And after hearing the album, your feet will want to fraaandship with your ears!"
The MUJHSE FRAAANDSHIP KAROGE music album with lyrics by Anvita Dutt features 8 songs including an explosive dance mix of one of the songs by Nikhil Chinappa, an insane rap by a set of Chennai rappers called Machas with Attitude and the fresh new voices of Shefali Alvares, Joi Baruah, Aditi Singh Sharma, Ash King, Suraj Jagan besides Vishal Dadlani & Shilpa Rao.
The songs including the ear-worm 'Uh-Oh', the nutty 'Dheaon Dheaon' and the Raghu Dixit Project classic 'Har Saans Mein' are already climbing up the charts.

Kickstarting the action is one of India’s coolest online influencers, VJ & DJ, Nikhil Chinapa – to host a very twisted version of a ‘Making of’. Versus the regular questions about characters, etc. Chinapa quizzes the gang on their weirdest online habits, social media cock-ups and more.

Y-Films ' 2nd production 'Mujshe Fraaandship Karoge ', directed by Nupur Asthana and produced by Ashish Patil, has shifted its release date to October 14th.
The film features a rocking desi-rock soundtrack by one of India 's most popular musicians Raghu Dixit who makes his Bollywood debut as composer. The music on the film is one of its bigger selling points and the shift has been done to facilitate more work on the songs which are being mastered in London and to include an additional song and video, besides capitalising on the lean period pre Diwali.
Mujhse Fraaandship Karoge is a romantic comedy set against the backdrop of social networking and also introduces 4 hot new faces, besides a host of fresh talent behind the scenes as well.

After Sandalwood, Raghu Dixit heads to Bollywood

Raghu Dixit, the musician who is often seen in a colourful panche and kurta teamed with ghungroos is on a new high after signing his first Bollywood project with none other than Y-films. The singer and composer who gave a new meaning to pop with his song 'Hey Bhagwan' that created a stir among the audience is all set to re-create the magic in his upcoming Hindi flick.
What’s more? The musician has also been awarded the Best Newcomer at the 2011 Songlines Music Awards, organised by a UK-based magazine Songlines. Currently working on his UK musical, he will be seen collaborating with English folk-band Bellowhead and Kathak dancer Gauri Sharma for the same.
“All the three of us performed together once, and seemed to have connected instantly. We decided on a staging a musical for which the production has already begun. Currently, we are in the process of finalising the story. Initially, we thought we could work on folk tales from the Panchatantra, but now we are browsing materials on Indian mythology. Nevertheless, there will be a strong folk element in our musical,” he reveals.
After a string of performances in the UK, the band will be seen performing at upcoming festivals like Glastonbury, Belladrum, Rhythms of the World, Latitude amongst others. Says Raghu, “The kind of response we get in places like the UK is amazing. Initially, it was difficult to break through, but there is a sense of curiosity for them to see men clad in weird costumes performing with western instruments. After the initial hiccup, they get comfortable.”
With work for his second album already in the pipeline, the composer seems to be having a rather busy year. “There will be about 10 songs in different languages like Tamil, Bengali, and Punjabi amongst others, unlike my previous album. I am looking at a November release,” he signs off.

Yash Raj Films' new youth films studio - Y-Films - will launch seven new faces in three movies in 2011.
Keeping with its vision of being a platform for new talent, Y-Films also showcased the fresh crop of directors and stars of the three films.
Yash Raj Films vice chairman Aditya Chopra said, "The youngest country in the world. Housing the largest movie going audience in the world. Youth! Its a segment that's not just too big - but too important - to ignore. Y-Films continues YRF's trend of breaking new genres. With a laser-sharp focus on youth, we hope to create a brand of cinema that will capture the hearts & imaginations of this elusive bunch and rock their world. The first movie under the new banner will be Luv ka The End, which is directed by Bumpy. It stars Shraddha Kapoor and introduces Taaha Shah. The movie has music by Ram Sampath and is slated for release on 6 May.
The second film is a rom-com against the backdrop of social networking is interestingly titled Mujhse Fraaandship Karoge. This will be a cheesy take off on one of YRF's earlier films - Mujhse Dosti Karoge starring Hrithik Roshan, Kareena Kapoor and Rani Mukherji. It may be recalled that Businessofcinema.com was the first to report that this movie will be directed by Nupur Asthana. Mujhse Fraaandship Karoge will introduce four new faces namely Saqib Saleem, Saba Azad, Nishant Dahiya and Tara D'Souza. "Y-Films promises to deliver kick ass films of the youth, by the youth, for the youth and be the platform for new talent, both on screen and behind the scenes, who will challenge, change, break and set new rules of story telling," Ashish Patil, head of Y-Films said at the launch.
Y-Films is ready with three films - " Luv Ka The End" and " Virus Diwan" directed by Bumpy and "Mujhse Fraaandship Karoge" directed by Nupur Asthana".
Y-Films would come up with unconventional marketing strategies to promote their films.
"There are very aggressive digital strategies where lots of digital partners would come to play to help us. That's a challenge to the marketing process that was happening in the past. There was a template. By design Y-Films would burn those templates. All the things that we are going to do around marketing films would be pretty fresh," said Patil.
Creatively it would be completely independent of Yash Raj Films, claimed Patil.
"The only thing that we are tapping into as far the mother ship Yash Raj Films is concerned is production and distribution. Creatively its a completely new world. That's what is wonderful working with Adi ( Aditya Chopra) and Yashji," said Patil.
The first film "Luv ka The End" is slated to release May 6.
