Yash Chopra to direct a film

13 February 2008 (Sawf News) - Close on the heels of the recent announcement from Yash Raj Films that Aditya Chopra will direct a film after 8 years his father, Yash Raj Chopra, also announced his intent to direct a film this year.

"This year, I am going to direct my next film. The story has been finalized, only the script has to be given shape," Chopra announced at an event by the Ladies Study Group on Wednesday, February 13.

Chopra's last directorial venture, Veer Zaara (2004), was a huge box office success.

The 75-year-old producer / director made his directorial debut in 1959 with Dhool Ka Phool, earlier having assisted his elder brother BR Chopra on the sets of Naya Daur (1957).

A quintessential romantic at heart, Chopra is best remembered by hits such as Veer-Zaara, Dil To Pagal Hai and Lamhe.

Chopra's banner - Yash Raj Films - is one of the most revered banners in Bollywood. Until recently it had an enviable reputation of delivering one hit after the other.

The banner lost some of its Midas touch in 2007 - four of its releases - Aaja Nachle, Laaga Chunari Mein Daag, Jhoom Barabar Jhoom and Ta Ra Rum Pum - failed to rouse the box office though, Chak De! India was a huge success.

Chopra brushes aside the reverses last year.

"I am not disappointed. If the films don't work it doesn't mean you will stop making movies. You like the story, believe in it and go ahead," he says.

However, it is believed that the father son duo has rolled up its sleeves and gone back to directing in order to restore the banner's reputation.

That can only mean that movie goers in India are in for a rare treat!
